Liverpool, N.Y. – The FDU Knights registered a 6-1 victory over the Le Moyne College women's tennis team in Northeast Conference action Saturday evening at the Elevate Fitness courts in Liverpool.
FDU won two of the doubles matches to claim the first point of the day, then won five of the six singles matches to secure the NEC victory.
Feriel Mahbouli (Tunis, Tunisia/Lycee 36/South Carolina State) and
Ella Fernando (Manchester, England/Stonyhurst College) narrowly defeated Namie Isago and Yelena Kim, 7-6 (8-6) in the No. 1 doubles match, but Alena Kubanova and Anastasia Kim bested
Alicia Alvarez (Madrid, Spain/IES Ortega y Gasset) and
Stella Simeonova (Sofia, Bulgaria/National Gymnasium of Mathematics and Natural Sciences) in the second position by a score of 6-0, and Valentina Silva and Katsiaryna Kostsina claimed a 6-2 win over
Paula Casares (A Coruna, Spain/Colegio Maristas Cristo Rey) and
Isabella Barona (Manta, Ecuador/Talentos de Manta) in the third position.
Isago recorded a 6-1, 7-5 win over Mahbouli in the No. 1 singles match, Lim outlasted Fernando 6-2, 6-1, 6-2 in the second position, Kubanova defeated Casares by a score of 6-3, 6-4 in the third in position, Silva recorded an 8-4 win over Alvarez in the fifth position, and Kostsina took down Simeonova 8-7 (7-2) in the sixth position.
Barona recorded Le Moyne's lone point with an 8-4 win over Kim in the No. 4 singles match.
The Le Moyne College women's tennis team will return to action on Wednesday with a 12:00 p.m. match at Cornell University.
