FDU CLAIMS 5-2 WIN OVER BASEBALL IN NEC OPENER

Teaneck, N.J. – The Le Moyne College baseball team recorded a 5-2 defeat against FDU in the NEC opener for both sides Friday at FDU's Naimoli Family Complex.

Le Moyne and FDU will play game two of the conference series on Saturday at 1:00 p.m., followed by game three on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.

Senior catcher Benji Ries (Buffalo Grove, Ill./Aldai E. Stevenson) recorded a team-high two hits for Le Moyne, while freshmen Dominick Russ (Horseheads, N.Y./Horseheads) and Derek Diaz (White Plains, N.Y./Iona Prep) reached base twice with one single and one walk each, and outfielders Tyler Campbell (Syracuse, N.Y./Westhill/Onondaga C.C.) and Paulie Goodness (Palmyra, N.Y./Palmyra-Macedon/Finger Lakes Community College) both scored a run.

Senior right-handed starting pitcher Bobby McBride (Brewster, N.Y./Brewster/UConn/Coastal Carolina) registered a career-high seven strikeouts with two hits, one walk and one earned run allowed in 5.0 innings of work in his third start and fourth appearance of the season for the Dolphins.

FDU scored the first run of the game in the bottom of the first, then Le Moyne tied the game in the top of the fourth as Campbell drew a leadoff walk, stole second base, advanced to third on a sacrifice fly from freshman infielder Tim Denet (West Harrison, N.Y./Iona Prep), and crossed the plate on a passed ball.

FDU senior outfielder Joey DiMotta put the Knights back in front with a solo home run with two outs in the bottom of the fourth.

Goodness scored on a balk in the seventh to tie the contest at 2-2, but FDU scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh via an RBI single from freshman outfielder Travis Stroh, and a two-RBI single from sophomore outfielder Jimmy Mantuano.

FDU graduate right-handed reliever Ethan Rembish, who compiled nine strikeouts with one hit, zero walks and one run allowed in 4.0 innings of work, recorded 1-2-3 innings in the eighth and ninth to earn the win on the mound.
