SOFTBALL TAKES ROAD SERIES AGAINST FDU BEHIND ROSS' COMPLETE GAME SHUTOUT

Syracuse, N.Y. – The Le Moyne College softball team wrapped up their season series against Northeast Conference rival FDU on Saturday afternoon. The Dolphins came away with a 1-0 victory behind and seven shutout innings in the circle by freshman starting pitcher Nevaeh Ross (Friendship, N.Y./Friendship). The Dolphins who now sit 13-24 overall and 5-10 in NEC action this season became the first team to win a conference series against the Knights after yesterday's doubleheader split.

Following a quiet first two innings that saw only four combined runners reach base between the two teams, the Dolphins struck for the only run of the matchup in the top of the third. Freshman catcher Ava Todd (Savannah, N.Y./Tyburn Academy) worked a leadoff walk before being pinch run for by junior Alayna Bush (Adams, N.Y./South Jefferson). Bush stole second before advancing to third on an infield groundout off the bat of senior second baseman Dominique Rinaldi (Sayville, N.Y./Sayville) and eventually scored on a wild pitch after a pitching change for FDU.

Ross allowed only five baserunners the rest of the game and didn't allow any Knights to reach scoring position until the final half inning when catcher Rebecca Merkes led off the inning with a single to left field before her pinch runner Mikayla Conklin advanced on a sac bunt. Following a grounder to short which pushed Conklin to third, sophomore shortstop Shannon Gavigan (Havertown, Pa./Haverford) reacted quickly and snagged an infield liner to seal the 1-0 victory for the Dolphins.

Offensively, Rinaldi and sophomore center fielder Sydney Nesci (Cicero, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse) registered the lone hits for Le Moyne in the win.

In the circle, Ross finished allowing zero runs on four hits and two walks while striking out one in her second complete game win of the weekend.
