DeWitt, N.Y. – The Le Moyne College men's tennis team improved to 5-1 in Northeast Conference action with a 4-2 victory over LIU on Saturday night at Elevate Fitness.
The Dolphins opened the match by claiming the point in the doubles competition. At the first position, senior
Peter Hatton (Syracuse, N.Y./Jamesville-DeWitt/Club Med Academics/Army West Point) and junior
Adrian Daniel (Tel Aviv, Israel/Montana State) won their 13th consecutive match, 6-4, over Leon Harder and Philip Hilble. Freshmen
Luke Hoyland (Sheffield, England/Birkdale School) and
Lorenzo Bortolaso (Bassano del Grappa, Italy/IT IS Enrico Fermi) clinched the point with a 7-6 (7-5) win at the second spot over Victor Sjostrom and Lucas Hornung. Graduate student
Bernardo Teixeira (Porto, Portugal/Escola Secundária Fontes Pereira de Mel/University of Porto/Delaware) and freshman
Jacob Maravillas (Bergenfield, N.J./Homeschooled) were leading the tiebreaker at the third position, 5-0, over Danila Ishchanka and Ales D'Anna when the point was clinched.
Le Moyne added three wins in the singles competition to close out the victory. Hatton tallied his 11th straight win with back-to-back 7-5 wins at the top spot over Harder. Teixeira was victorious at the third position over Sjostrom, 6-2, 6-1. 6. Freshman
Navya Verma (Patiala, India) clinched the win for the Dolphins by defeating Hornung at the sixth spot, 7-5, 6-0. Hilble earned his first win against the Dolphins, 6-2, 6-4, over Daniel at the second position after two losses to Hatton at the top spot last year. Ishchanka picked up LIU's second point with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Hoyland at the fourth spot. Maravillas was leading D'Anna, 7-5, 6-5, at the fifth position when Le Moyne's victory was clinched.
Le Moyne (7-9, 5-1 NEC) wraps up regular season competition against NEC foes on Friday at Binghamton University at 6:00 p.m. The Dolphins recorded a 4-3 win over the Bearcats at Elevate Fitness on January 31.
