Syracuse, N.Y. – The Le Moyne College softball team fell, 1-0, on the road in game one of their series against NEC rival Wagner College on Saturday morning. The Dolphins' loss pushed them to 9-20 overall and 1-6 in conference play this season.
Through their first three ups of the game, the Dolphins recorded a pair of hits but were unable to push a run across against the Seahawks. Freshman starter Isabella Kwashek (West Deptford, N.J./West Deptford) was able to keep the team in striking distance, however, only allowing one hit through the first two innings of the game.
Wagner put together the only run of the game in the bottom of the third as a hit batter and double to center field put runners in scoring position to start off the inning. A sac fly two batters later off the bat of Buchanan scored the lead runner and wound up being the difference in the matchup.
Despite loading the bases in the top of the sixth inning behind a single to left field from sophomore center fielder Sydney Nesci (Cicero, N.Y/Cicero-North Syracuse), double to center off the bat of sophomore DP Arianna Exarchakis (Monroe, N.Y./Monroe-Woodbury), and walk from junior first baseman Audrey Benderski (Spring Lake Park, Minn./Spring Lake Park), the Dolphins were unable to capitalize and, after a mortally quiet seventh, fell to Wagner, 1-0, in game one of their season set.
Kwashek allowed one run on seven hits and one walk while striking out three in the circle through all six innings of play for Le Moyne.
Exarchakis and sophomore shortstop Shannon Gavigan (Havertown, Pa./Haverford) led the squad with two hits apiece in the loss.
