Annapolis, Md. – The Le Moyne College volleyball team opened the Navy Invitational by taking on Gardner-Webb University on Friday afternoon. The Runnin' Bulldogs came away with a 3-0 victory, taking down the Dolphins, 25-16, 25-22, 25-11 through three sets. The Dolphins now hold a 1-6 record on the season.
Sophomore outside hitter Jordyn Hamlin (Manahawkin, N.J. / Southern Regional) led the Dolphins with nine kills while junior opposite hitter Branwyn Lupton (Napanee, O.N. / Napanee District Secondary School) and sophomore outside hitter Nina Salas (Austin, T.X. / McNeil) each recorded another seven kills. Hamlin also added a team-high two service aces while senior setter Haley Gerken (Buffalo, N.Y. / Frontier) tallied 14 assists to lead the way for Le Moyne. On defense, sophomore libero/DS Brooke Menke (St. Louis, M.O. / Visitation Academy) led with 12 digs, as Hamlin brought in another 11 and freshman middle hitter Eiley Schneider (Ramsey, N.J./Ramsey) registered a team-best pair of blocks against the Runnin' Bulldogs.
Haedyn Crumbley was the lone player in the match to record double-digit kills, totaling 14 to lead the way for Gardner-Webb. Isabel Sandstrum led with five service aces while Sloane Rooney put up a match-high 22 assists in the victory. Defensively, Nalani McBride recorded 16 digs while Brookelyn Nance put together four blocks.
Le Moyne will return to the court to close out the weekend against host Navy at 1:00 p.m. tomorrow, Saturday, Sept. 13.
