WOMEN’S BOWLING REGISTERS FOUR WINS AND PLACES SEVENTH IN INAUGURAL COMPETITION AT MERCYHURST INVITATIONAL

Erie, Pa. – The Le Moyne College women's bowling team registered five victories and finished in seventh place at its inaugural competition, the Mercyhurst Invitational, on Saturday and Sunday at Rolling Meadow Lanes.

In its first-ever match, the Dolphins were edged by William Smith College, 887-801. The Dolphins responded by earning their first victory, downing Hilbert College, 843-806. The team then knocked off 16th-ranked and reigning NEC champion Duquesne University by just three pins, 885-882. The team closed out its first day of competition with a 785-745 setback to Roberts Wesleyan University.

Third year Kyra Walter (West Babylon, N.Y./West Babylon/Dominican) led the Dolphins on the day with a 184.25 scoring average and 737 total pins. Second year Jenna Jump (Port Byron, N.Y./Dana L. West/Dominican) knocked down 693 pins and had an average of 173.25. First year Carmen Youngs (Boonville, N.Y./West Canada Valley) opened her collegiate career with an average of 165.25 and 661 total pins. Fourth year Sophia Vasil (Troy, N.Y./Catholic Central) recorded an average of 156.75 and 627 total pins in her first collegiate competition. Second year Abigail London (Chandler, Ariz./Chandler/Valparaiso) was in the lineup for three matches and posted an average of 138 pins. First year Sandy Ferlo (Mohawk, N.Y./Central Valley Academy) knocked down 142 pins in the win over Hilbert in her collegiate debut.

The Dolphins opened Baker match play on Sunday with an 868-832 setback to D'Youville University. They followed with their largest win of the weekend, 875-773, over host Mercyhurst. The 'Phins then picked up their fourth victory, 857-845, over Daemen University. They capped round-robin play with a 956-861 setback to 14th-ranked Niagara University.

In the best-of-7 seventh-place match, the Dolphins defeated Hilbert, 4-1, following scores of 203-133, 212-168, 230-154, 198-207, 167-155.

The Dolphins are back in action on Saturday, October 24 for the first day of the Niagara University Fall Open at Rapids Bowling Center in Niagara Falls, N.Y.
