WOMEN'S BASKETBALL OVERPOWERED BY TCU

Fort Worth, Texas – The Le Moyne women's basketball team (0-2) was overpowered by TCU (2-0) 96-41 on Thursday evening in Fort Worth.

Recap:

The Dolphins held the lead for the majority of the first quarter, with no lead changes and four ties. First-year guard Gianna Nichols (Sturbridge, Mass./St. George's) opened scoring with a made 3-pointer as the team held TCU scoreless for two and a half minutes. A layup from fourth-year forward Ashley Buragas (Hopewell Junction, N.Y./Mineral Area) grew the lead 5-1 before the Horned Frogs tied it up.

The Dolphins responded with a 6-0 run, but the Horned Frogs tied it at 11 with just under four minutes to go in the quarter. The teams exchanged points to close out the first, with every Le Moyne bucket matched by TCU free throws.

A late offensive foul call on the Horned Frogs prevented them from taking their first lead of the contest. The quarter finished 17-17. Nichols led the Dolphins with five points, third-year guard Eli Clark (Oakhurst, N.J./Ocean Township) close behind with four. Fifth-year forward Kendal Moxey (Centreville, Md./Bowling Green) tallied five rebounds, four points and two assists.

TCU came back strong in the second quarter, going on a three-minute, 9-0 run spurred by its lockdown defense. Nichols broke up the run with her second from beyond the arc. It wasn't enough for Le Moyne to find a scoring rhythm as the Horned Frogs went on an 8-0 run, stretching their lead to double digits.

Layups from fourth-year forward Sydney Postell (Churchville, N.Y./Churchville-Chili) and Moxey, as well as a third 3-point make from Nichols prevented another long-run for TCU, who closed out the quarter up by 18, outshooting the Dolphins 28-10. Le Moyne went into the break down 45-27. Nichols was the first Dolphin in double digits, reaching 11 points in the half.

Le Moyne was held to two points in the third quarter, a made layup by Moxey at 7:49 that put the team within 20. A 21-0 run between 7:29 and 0:46 extended TCU's advantage to 41 points entering the final 10 minutes.

Second-year guard Peyton Dincher (Jersey Shore, Pa./Jersey Shore) ended the scoring drought for Le Moyne with a layup 40 seconds into the fourth quarter. The first field goal for the team in almost eight minutes was met with a 9-0 run by TCU before first-year guard Ava Bluhm (Cambridge, Ontario/Royal Crown School) pulled up from deep for her first collegiate points. Postell recorded the final seven points for Le Moyne, bringing her total to nine, but the Dolphins could not stage a comeback, falling 96-41.
