MEN’S TENNIS EARNS FIRST WIN, 5-2, OVER STONEHILL

DeWitt, N.Y. – The Le Moyne College men's tennis team earned its first win of the season on Saturday night, 5-2, over Stonehill College in NEC action at Elevate Fitness.

The Dolphins opened the match by winning the point in the doubles competition. Sophomores Callum Matthew (Dorset, England/Highcliffe School) and Lorenzo Bortolaso (Bassano del Grappa, Italy/IT IS Enrico Fermi) defeated Guillermo Bennaton and Alexis Chastang at the third position, 6-4. At the top spot, freshman Carlo Zucchini (Varese, Italy/European School of Varese) and sophomore Navya Verma (Patiala, India/Apollo Public School) edged Hector Cebrian and Jacob Borch-Nielsen, 7-5, to clinch the point. Sophomore Luke Hoyland (Sheffield, England/Birkdale School) and freshman Gabriel Segubiense (Sugar Land, Texas/Clements) were tied with Benjamin Beaudry and Nicolas Arredondo, 6-6, at the second position when the point was clinched.
 
Le Moyne clinched the match by winning the first three positions to finish in the singles competition. Matthew earned the first victory, 6-2, 6-3, at the second spot over Alessandro Munoz. Bortolaso followed with a 6-1, 7-6 (9-7) win over Borch-Nielsen at the fourth position. Zucchini registered the clinching point, 6-4, 6-3, at the top spot over Bennaton. Cebrian picked up Stonehill's first point, 6-3, 7-6 (9-7), at the third position against Hoyland. Verma was a 7-5, 6-1 winner at the sixth spot over Arredondo. Beaudry closed out the match with a 3-6, 6-2, 12-10 victory at the fifth position over Segubiense.
 
Le Moyne (1-2, 1-1 NEC) is back in action on Saturday against Siena University at 6:15 p.m. at Tri-City Fitness in Latham, N.Y.
