JAMES MADISON SWEEPS DOUBLEHEADER WITH BASEBALL

Harrisonburg, Va. — The Le Moyne College baseball team dropped both games of a doubleheader Saturday afternoon at Eagle Field at Veterans Memorial Park. James Madison claimed a 16-1 victory in seven innings in game one, then defeated Le Moyne 11-4 in game two.

Game One:
Eight different players drove in runs for the Dukes, led by left fielder Kyle Langley, who tallied three hits, including two doubles, and three runs batted in. Shortstop Josiah Seguin also had three hits, including a double, drove in two runs and drew a walk. Third baseman Jack Guerrero had two RBI doubles and designated hitter Cameron Aycock drove in two runs on two hits.

Freshman right-hander Luke Alexander earned the victory for James Madison after registering six strikeouts with one hit and no runs allowed in 5.0 innings of work in relief of left-handed starting pitcher Max Kuhle, who tossed a scoreless top of the first inning.

For Le Moyne, freshman right fielder Isaac Brozon (Aurora, N.Y. Southern Cayuga) drove in the Dolphins' only run of the game on a bases loaded walk, while junior center fielder Jack Cannon (Webster, N.Y./Webster Schroeder) recorded a double, drew a walk, and stole three bases.

Redshirt sophomore Eric Swiencicki (Lancaster, N.Y./St. Joseph's Collegiate Institute) made the start for Le Moyne, pitching 2.2 innings of work, striking out two and recording the loss.

The Dukes loaded the bases to begin the bottom of the first inning and second baseman Reece Moody singled to right-field to push two runners across. The Dukes scored two more runs on a sacrifice fly and a wild pitch to give them an early 4-0 lead.

Langley added an RBI double to right center in the bottom of the second and Seguin brought him home on a double to center field to extend the Dukes' lead to six.

Guerrero hit an RBI double to right center in the bottom of the third inning and later in the frame Langley singled to right field for his third hit of the game, driving in two runs and making it 9-0.

Moody walked to lead off the bottom of the fourth and center fielder Clay Thompson brought him home on an RBI double down the left field line. Outfielder Will Haacke singled to bring home Thompson and Guerrero hit an RBI double to right center to bring Haacke home. Seguin and Aycock added RBI singles later in the inning to make it 14-0.

Aycock added an RBI triple in the bottom of the sixth and center fielder Isaiah Nolan delivered a pinch-hit RBI single to right-field to make it 16-0.

Freshman pinch-hitter Nick Kriegelstein (Farmington, N.Y./Victor) reached on a hit by pitch to lead off the top of the seventh inning for the Dolphins. Freshman left fielder Luke Becker (Liverpool, N.Y. Christian Brothers Academy) and sophomore designated hitter Landen Duprey (Morrisonville, N.Y. Peru) worked two-out walks and Brozon brought Kriegelstein home on an RBI bases-loaded walk. The next batter struck out, sealing a 16-1 victory for James Madison.

Game Two:
Cannon and senior infielder Adam Sullivan (Syracuse, N.Y./Marcellus) each led the Dolphins with a pair of RBIs, while junior shortstop Mike Whelehan (Hilton, N.Y./Hilton) tallied a single and two walks in the setback.

Redshirt freshman right-hander Mitchell Earle (Cortland, N.Y. Homer) made the start for Le Moyne, pitching 5.0 innings of work, striking out two batters, allowing four runs, all unearned, and recording the loss.

Whelehan and sophomore first baseman Dominick Russ (Horseheads, N.Y./Horseheads) worked back-to-back walks in the top of the first inning and Sullivan drove both of them in on a single to center field to give the Dolphins an early 2-0 lead.

Two walks gave the Dukes runners on first and second with one-out in the bottom of the second inning and an error in the infield allowed a run to score while catcher Ryan Gocio reached base safely. Langley followed with a sacrifice bunt that brought home the runner from third, tying the game at 2-2. Moody added a two-run single to center field later in the frame to make it 4-2.

A walk and a single from Gocio gave the Dukes runners on first and third with one out in the bottom of the sixth inning, and a two-run double up the middle by Langley made it 6-2.

A sacrifice fly to right field by first baseman Keegan Haesler in the bottom of the seventh inning made it 7-2.

Whelehan walked and Brozon reached on a fielding error to give the Dolphins two base runners with one out in the top of the eighth. A passed ball allowed both runners to advance, and Cannon hit a two-run single up the middle to make it a 7-4 game.

The Dukes loaded the bases to begin the bottom of the eighth inning, and a two-run single to center field by Seguin made it 9-4. Thompson had an RBI groundout later in the frame, and Moody stole home to increase the James Madison lead to 11-4.

Junior catcher Cooper Romich (North Chili, N.Y./Churchville-Chili) singled up the middle for his second hit of the game with one out in the top of the ninth, but Dukes right-hander Adam Horvath retired the next two batters to secure an 11-4 win and a series sweep for James Madison.

Le Moyne will return to action on Friday at the University of North Carolina, which is ranked between sixth and 10th in all four NCAA-recognized polls, at 4:00 p.m.
