WOMEN’S TENNIS EARNS FIRST WIN, 5-2, OVER BINGHAMTON ON “SENIOR DAY”

DeWitt, N.Y. – The Le Moyne College women's tennis team earned its first victory of the season, 5-2, on Sunday evening at Elevate Fitness.

The Dolphins took a 1-0 lead in the match by capturing the point in the doubles competition. At the first spot, junior Ella Fernando (Manchester, England/Stonyhurst College) and senior Paula Casares (A Coruna, Spain/Colegio Maristas Cristo Rey) defeated Loren Cuomo and Nitya Vyas, 6-3. Seniors Stella Simeonova (Sofia, Bulgaria/National Gymnasium of Mathematics and Natural Sciences) and Alicia Alvarez (Madrid, Spain/IES Ortega y Gasset) clinched the point with a 7-5 victory at the second position over Angel Walia and Samantha Jaros. Apara Khandare and Adelie Wilson were 7-6 (7-5) winners at the third spot over senior Emma Sanchez Jimenez (Marbella, Spain/Victoria Kent Marbella/Eastern Florida State College/Carson-Newman) and junior Lilia Raiss (Temara, Morocco/Descartes).

Le Moyne added four points in the singles competition. Raiss collected the point at the sixth spot as Binghamton was unable to fill the position due to injury. Alvarez recorded back-to-back scores of 6-2 at the fifth spot against former teammate Wilson. Casares clinched the match by rallying for a 1-6, 6-3, 6-3 victory over Vyas at the fourth position. Fernando earned Le Moyne's final point with a come-from-behind 2-6, 7-6 (7-0), 6-2 victory at the second position over Walia. Khandare won at the third spot over Simeonova, 6-4, 6-0, to get the Bearcats on the scoreboard. Cuomo rallied at the first position to defeat Sanchez Jimenez, 4-6, 6-1, 1-0 (10-7).
 
Le Moyne (1-8, 1-3 NEC) is back in action on Wednesday at Cornell University at 5:00 p.m.
