Albany, N.Y. – The Le Moyne College softball team traveled to the state capital for a mid-week non-conference matchup with UAlbany on Wednesday afternoon. The Great Danes rode a six-run fourth inning to a 10-2 victory over the Dolphins in five innings.
The hosts got on the board first in the bottom of the second as catcher Vanessa Meyers and second baseman Kasey Conn each plated a runner on back-to-back doubles off of Le Moyne's freshman starter Adrianna Laraway (Colonie, N.Y. / Colonie) to take a two-run lead with no outs in the frame.
After a pitching change brought in sophomore Danni Simpson (Marietta, Ga. / Sprayberry), left fielder Kaitlyn Parisi drove in Conn on a bunt to put UAlbany ahead 3-0.
The Dolphins cracked the scoreboard in the top of the third inning as freshman left fielder Kayla Dunkerley (Purcellville, Va. / Loudon Valley) blasted her first collegiate homerun to left field to lead off.
Le Moyne tacked on another run and pulled within one in the following frame as sophomore third baseman Cianna Benamati (Ballston Lake, N.Y./Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) led off with a double to center before coming around to score on a double off the bat of senior first baseman Audrey Benderski (Spring Lake Park, Minn./Spring Lake Park).
The Great Danes extended their lead in their half of the inning, though, driving in six runs on six hits to pull ahead, 9-2. A single from Sara Anderson drove in a pair before freshman Tatum Nessman (Calgary, Alberta / National Sport School) appeared in the circle for the 'Phins. RBI hits from Conn, left fielder Kailtlyn Parisi, and pinch hitter Kristina Langdon along with a sac fly by right fielder Taylor Quinn each plated a runner for the home squad.
In the following inning, a double to center field off the bat of Kaitlyn Parisi drove in DP Julia Pike to give UAlbany an eight-run lead and the 10-2 win in five innings.
Six Dolphins recorded a hit in the loss, with Dunkerley and Benderski registering the team's two RBI.
Laraway allowed three runs on three hits in 1.0 innings in the start while Simpson and Nessman combined to allow seven runs on eight hits and four walks in 3.0 innings of relief. Sophomore Isabella Kwashek (West Deptford, N.J. / West Deptford) finished the game on the mound, allowing the final hit.
