KWASHEK'S ONE-RUN COMPLETE GAME LEADS SOFTBALL TO WIN OVER LAFAYETTE ON DAY TWO OF LONGWOOD TOURNAMENT

Farmville, Va. – The Le Moyne College softball team continued the Longwood Spring Break Classic with a doubleheader against Youngstown State and Lafayette on Saturday. The Penguins came out on top, 4-3, in walk-off fashion in game one before the Dolphins took down the Leopards, 3-1, to round out the day.

Game 1:
Following a quiet top of the first for Le Moyne, Youngstown State struck first in their half of the inning, driving in two runs on four walks and one RBI single up the middle off the bat of DP Kennedy Dean. Freshman Adrianna Laraway (Colonie, N.Y. / Colonie) appeared in relief to get the final out of the inning for the Dolphins.

Le Moyne cracked the scoreboard in the top of the second inning as sophomore third baseman Cianna Benamati (Ballston Lake, N.Y./Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) doubled to right center and advanced to third just one at-bat before freshman shortstop Coral Enscoe (Webster, N.Y. / Bishop Kearney) drove her in with a grounder to third base.

The Dolphins tied the game at 2-2 two innings later as junior DP Arianna Exarchakis (Monroe, N.Y./Monroe-Woodbury) led-off the frame with a single to center field before Enscoe again drove in the runner on a double to left center.

Youngstown State retook the lead in the bottom of the fifth as shortstop Emma Gilkerson sent a homer to left center in the first at-bat of the inning. Following a double from third baseman Tai Turner, sophomore Isabella Kwashek (West Deptford, N.J. / West Deptford) was tabbed to enter the circle and got out of the inning without allowing any further damage, getting three straight batters to ground out.

Down to their final out in the top of the seventh, sophomore center fielder Maddie Martin (Carlisle, Pa. / Cumberland Valley) and junior right fielder Sydney Nesci (Cicero, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse) reached base on back-to-back singles before Exarchakis singled to third base to plate Martin and tie the game once again.

The Penguins rebounded quickly in their half of the final inning, however, as three runners got on to load the bases before the team recorded a single out. A walk-off single up the middle off the bat of center fielder Bree Kohler allowed pinch runner Macy Littler to score and gave Youngstown State the 4-3 victory.

Exarchakis and senior first baseman Audrey Benderski (Spring Lake Park, Minn./Spring Lake Park) each tallied two hits while Enscoe led with a pair of RBI for the 'Phins.

Freshman starter Tatum Nessman (Calgary, Alberta / National Sport School) allowed the Penguins' first two runs in the bottom of the first inning on one hit and four walks in 0.2 innings pitched.

Laraway tossed 3.1 innings of one-run ball in relief, allowing four hits and one walk as Kwashek finished the game allowing one run on four hits and one walk in 1.2 innings.

Game 2:
Le Moyne came out to a quick 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning as Benderski walked early in the frame before scoring an RBI triple off the center field wall by sophomore catcher Ava Todd (Savannah, N.Y. / Tyburn Academy)

One batter later, freshman left fielder Kayla Dunkerley (Purcellville, Va. / Loudon Valley) doubled to right field, driving in Todd.

The Dolphins tacked on their final run in their half of the fourth as Enscoe singled up the middle to lead-off before advancing to second on a sac bunt from Todd and stealing third base. Le Moyne's shortstop came around to score on an infield single by junior second baseman Avery Linn (Bethpage, N.Y./Plainedge).

The Leopards scratched the scoring column in the top of the sixth inning as a double down the left field line from shortstop Caroline Hall led to a run two batters later on an RBI infield single from third baseman Katie Harrington.

Kwashek closed out her one-run complete game with a 1-2-3 top of the seventh to give the Dolphins their second victory of the season.

Kwashek allowed just three hits and one walk while striking out one batter in her first win of the year. Of her seven innings pitched, the Leopards went down in order in four of them.

Linn led Le Moyne offensively with a pair of hits and an RBI while Todd and Dunkerly tallied the team's other RBI.
