SOFTBALL TAKES SERIES FINALE AGAINST WAGNER ON NESCI'S WALK-OFF HOMER

Syracuse, N.Y. – The Le Moyne College softball team finished out their home NEC series against Wagner on Sunday afternoon. The Dolphins salvaged the series, taking down the Seahawks, 11-2, in walk-off fashion in six innings.

Le Moyne cracked the scoreboard first in the bottom of the opening inning as freshman left fielder Kayla Dunkerley (Purcellville, Va. / Loudon Valley) led-off with a double to center field before coming home on a bunt by sophomore center fielder Maddie Martin (Carlisle, Pa. / Cumberland Valley) that reached the outfield.

Wagner tied the game at 1-1 in the top of the third as back-to-back singles and a hit-by-pitch allowed by the Dolphins' sophomore starter Isabella Kwashek (West Deptford, N.J. / West Deptford) led to a sac fly off the bat of right fielder Taylor Reynolds.

The 'Phins reclaimed the lead and pushed five runs across on four hits in their half of the inning. Dunkerley singled up the middle early in the frame before scoring on a single to left center from senior first baseman Audrey Benderski (Spring Lake Park, Minn./Spring Lake Park). Junior DP Arianna Exarchakis (Monroe, N.Y./Monroe-Woodbury) drove in another run as junior right fielder Sydney Nesci (Cicero, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse) came around to score on another single to left center.

One batter later, sophomore third baseman Cianna Benamati (Ballston Lake, N.Y./Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) cleared the bases with a three-RBI homer to left field to extend the team's advantage to 6-1.

Le Moyne added three more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning as sophomore catcher Ava Todd (Savannah, N.Y. / Tyburn Academy) singled to right field before her pinch runner, freshman Camryn Shenk (Rome, N.Y. / Camden), came around to score on a double off the bat of Dunkerley. Junior pinch hitter Molly Wolf (Horseheads, N.Y./Horseheads) then brought Dunkerley home with a double to left center.

Martin, who re-entered the game at second base for Wolf, was then driven in on a single to right field by Nesci which put the hosts ahead, 9-1.

The Seahawks avoided the run-rule defeat in the top of the fifth inning as third baseman Sydnie Trujillo doubled to left field to drive in left fielder Lea Rachal, who reached on a fielding error earlier in the inning.

The Dolphins closed out the 11-2 victory in the bottom of the sixth inning as Martin reached on a lead-off single to the pitcher before coming around to score on a walk-off two-run homer off the bat of Nesci.

Dunkerley led all players with three hits while Martin, Nesci, and Benderski each added two for Le Moyne, as well. Nesci and Benamati tied for the game-high with three RBI each.

In the circle, Kwashek earned the victory allowing two runs (one earned) on six hits and a pair of walks over 4.0 innings while Nessman closed out the game giving up zero runs on no hits and one walk while striking out two in the final 2.0 innings of play.
