Syracuse, N.Y. – The Le Moyne College softball team hosted St. Bonaventure in a non-conference doubleheader on Wednesday afternoon. The Bonnies took game one, 7-1, before closing out the two-game set with a 10-7 victory in eight innings in game two.
Game 1:
The visitors got on the board in the top of the first as center fielder Sydney DeGram singled to reach base before advancing to second on a wild pitch and scoring off an RBI single to right field from first baseman Nolah Moyer.
Moyer drove in DeGram once again in the top of the third with an RBI bunt off of Le Moyne's freshman starter
Isabella Kwashek (West Deptford, N.J. / West Deptford).
Trailing 2-0 in the bottom of the fourth, Le Moyne brought their lone run across as junior right fielder
Sydney Nesci (Cicero, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse) led-off with a ground-rule double before coming around to score on a single up the middle off the bat of senior first baseman
Audrey Benderski (Spring Lake Park, Minn./Spring Lake Park).
The Bonnies added five runs on two hits and two errors in the top of the seventh to extend their lead to six runs, 7-1.
The Dolphins were unable to mount a comeback in the final inning and dropped game one.
In the circle, Kwashek allowed seven runs (six earned) on seven hits and four walks while striking out three in 6.0 innings in the start while sophomore
Danni Simpson (Marietta, Ga. / Sprayberry) finished out the final inning, allowing no runs on zero hits and zero walks.
Game 2:
Following a top of the first in which Le Moyne's freshman starter
Tatum Nessman (Calgary, Alberta / National Sport School) didn't allow a run, the Dolphins' offense attacked for five runs on four hits to take their first lead of the day.
After a pair of walks and an infield single off the bat of sophomore center fielder
Maddie Martin (Carlisle, Pa. / Cumberland Valley) loaded the bases with no outs, Benderski drove in a pair with a single to right field. Two batters later, sophomore third baseman
Cianna Benamati (Ballston Lake, N.Y./Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) drove in another two runs with an RBI single up the middle. Benamati closed out the scoring and put the 'Phins up 5-0 by stealing home later on in the frame.
The Bonnies lessened their deficit to four runs in the top of the second as DP Grace Miller walked to lead-off before coming around to score on a wild pitch after advancing on a sac bunt and single to left center.
St. Bonaventure's third baseman Kymora Wang doubled to lead off in the next inning and pulled the team with three runs, 5-2, as she scored on a fielder's choice to short.
Following three quiet frames for both offenses, St. Bonaventure tied the game in the top of the seventh as DeGram and shortstop Abigail Ahern singled up the middle before coming around to score on a three-run homer to right field by Wang. They added another five runs on four hits in the top of the eighth inning to take a 10-5 lead in extras.
The Dolphins added a pair of runs in their half of the inning as senior pinch-runner
Alexandra Chesney (Malverne, N.Y. /Sacred Heart Academy) scored on a wild pitch before junior DP
Arianna Exarchakis (Monroe, N.Y./Monroe-Woodbury) sent a solo home run past the right field wall. The team couldn't tie the game, however, and fell, 10-7, in eight innings in game two.
Exarchakis and Gavigan led Le Moyne with two hits apiece while Benderski and Benamati each drove in a pair of runs.
In the circle, Nessman allowed two runs on five hits and three walks in 3.0 innings in the start while freshman
