MEN’S TENNIS DOWNS LIU, 5-2

Brookville, N.Y. – The Le Moyne College men's tennis team registered a 5-2 victory over LIU on Friday in NEC action at the LIU Tennis Center.

The Dolphins opened the afternoon by earning the point in the doubles competition. They started by getting the win at the third position as LIU was unable to fill the position against sophomores Callum Matthew (Dorset, England/Highcliffe School) and Lorenzo Bortolaso (Bassano del Grappa, Italy/IT IS Enrico Fermi). Bassil Touban and James Vincent evened the competition at one apiece with a 6-3 win at the top spot over freshman Carlo Zucchini (Varese, Italy/European School of Varese) and sophomore Navya Verma (Patiala, India/Apollo Public School). Sophomore Luke Hoyland (Sheffield, England/Birkdale School) and freshman Gabriel Segubiense (Sugar Land, Texas/Clements) clinched the point with a 6-4 victory at the second position over Jack Brimm and Victor Sjöström.

Le Moyne added four victories in the singles competition to close out the match. With the Sharks unable to fill the position, junior Yegor Boyev (London, England/Ashcroft Technology Academy) won by default at the sixth spot. Zucchini improved to 6-2 in dual matches with back-to-back scores of 6-4 at the top spot over Touban. Matthew moved to 3-1 in NEC action with a 6-3, 1-6, 7-6 (7-5) win over Vincent at the second position. Segubiense won at the fifth spot over Lemmon-Warde, 6-3, 7-6 (9-7). Brimm collected a point for the Sharks with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Hoyland at the third position. Sjöström defeated Bortolaso at the fourth spot with back-to-back scores of 6-1.
 
Le Moyne (3-6, 2-2 NEC) is back on the courts on Saturday against Wagner College at 11:00 a.m. at the FDU Tennis Courts in Teaneck, N.J.
