Brookville, N.Y. – The Le Moyne College women's tennis team won for the third time in four matches, 4-3, over LIU on Friday afternoon in NEC action at the LIU Tennis Center.
The Dolphins got the day underway by winning the point in the doubles competition. Senior
Emma Sanchez Jimenez (Marbella, Spain/Victoria Kent Marbella/Eastern Florida State College/Carson-Newman) and junior
Lilia Raiss (Temara, Morocco/Descartes) registered a 6-2 win at the third spot over Mia Tsoukalas and Mori Grylak. Seniors
Stella Simeonova (Sofia, Bulgaria/National Gymnasium of Mathematics and Natural Sciences) and
Alicia Alvarez (Madrid, Spain/IES Ortega y Gasset) clinched the point with a 6-3 victory at the second position over Ksenia Reznitskaya and Leena Kuittinen. Junior
Ella Fernando (Manchester, England/Stonyhurst College) and senior
Paula Casares (A Coruna, Spain/Colegio Maristas Cristo Rey) were leading Paula Guillen and Emma Barclay at the top spot when the point was clinched.
Le Moyne captured the match by splitting the singles competition. Alvarez claimed the second point with a 7-6, 6-4 victory at the fourth spot over Kuittinen. Casares was leading 1-6, 6-0, 3-0 at the fifth position when Grylak retired. Raiss clinched the match for the Dolphins by rallying for a 6-7 (2-7), 6-2, 1-0 (10-4) victory over Barclay at the sixth spot. Reznitskaya rallied for a 3-6, 6-1, 6-2 win at the top spot over Sanchez Jimenez. Tsoukalas was a 6-2, 6-1 winner over Simeonova at the second position. Guillen claimed a 7-6 (7-5), 6-0 win at the third spot over Fernando.
Le Moyne (3-9, 2-3 NEC) continues its road trip on Saturday against Wagner College at 11:00 a.m. at the FDU Tennis Courts in Teaneck, N.J.
