BASEBALL FALLS AT UALBANY IN NON-CONFERENCE FINALE

Albany, N.Y. — The Le Moyne College baseball team fell to UAlbany on Tuesday afternoon at Varsity Field, 20-3.
 
Eight different players drove in runs for the Great Danes, led by right fielder Tre Mariano, who recorded a game-high six RBIs on two doubles and reached on a hit-by-pitch. Catcher Joe Perri drove in two runs on three hits and left fielder Michael Maggio added two RBIs on two hits and walked once. Third baseman Brian Guerrero recorded a two-run single and center fielder John Vitucci added a two-run double and walked twice.
 
Right-hander Jameson Walsh made the start for Albany, allowing one run and striking out two batters over 2.0 innings of work. Right-hander Zach Nalawadi pitched 3.0 innings in relief of Walsh, allowing zero runs, striking out two batters and recording the win. Right-hander Ryan Pittz finished the final 2.0 innings on the mound, allowing two runs and striking out two batters.
 
Sophomore catcher Derek Diaz (White Plains, N.Y./Iona Prep) led the Dolphins with a team-high four hits and drove in one run. Junior designated hitter Chaz Anthony (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) recorded two RBIs on two hits. Senior shortstop Adam Sullivan (Syracuse, N.Y./Marcellus) had two hits, both of which were doubles, and walked twice and junior right fielder Jack Cannon (Webster, N.Y./Webster Schroeder) also recorded two hits, including a double, and added a stolen base.
 
Freshman left-handed pitcher Connor Usowski (Auburn, N.Y./Port Byron) made the start for Le Moyne, pitching 2.0 innings of work, striking out one batter and recording the loss.
 
Vitucci walked to lead off the bottom of the first inning and an RBI triple by Maggio gave the Great Danes an early 1-0 lead. A sacrifice fly to center field by Mariano later in the inning made it 2-0.
 
Sullivan doubled and Anthony singled to put runners on first and third with no outs in the top of the second for the Dolphins. Diaz then lined an RBI single into left field to make it a 2-1 game.
 
Vitucci hit a two-out, two-run double into left center in the bottom of the second to make it 4-1.
 
Guerrero lined a two-out, two-run single to left center in the bottom of the third inning to make it a 6-1 game. He advanced to second on a wild pitch before Perri lined an RBI single through the left side to make it 7-1. Back-to-back walks loaded the bases before a wild pitch allowed Perri to score, making it 8-1. Maggio walked to reload the bases before a wild pitch brought home another run to make it 9-1. A walk reloaded the bases before a hit-by-pitch to Mariano brought across another run, giving Albany a 10-1 lead.
 
Maggio lined a one-out RBI single into center field in the bottom of the fifth to make it 11-1. Mariano brought home a run on a sacrifice fly to center later in the inning before an RBI single by first baseman Logan Morris gave the Great Danes a 13-1 advantage.
 
Albany pushed across seven runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Perri and centerfielder Luke Filippi reached on hit-by-pitches to put runners on first and second with one out. Both runners moved up on a passed ball before a wild pitch allowed Perri to score, making it 14-1. A walk and hit-by-pitch loaded the bases before Mariano lined a three-run double off the wall in left center to make it 17-1. They reloaded the bases before a wild pitch brought home Mariano to make it 18-1. The Great Danes brought home another run on a sacrifice fly before Perri lined an RBI single through the left side to make it 20-1. 
 
A walk by redshirt junior second baseman James Musso (Auburn, N.Y./Skaneateles) and a double through the left side by Sullivan put runners on second and third with one out for the Dolphins in the top of the seventh. Anthony then hit a two-run single to left center to make it 20-3. Diaz followed with a double down the left field line, and sophomore first baseman Landen Duprey (Morrisonville, N.Y. Peru) was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Pittz got the final batter of the game to ground into a double play to secure the 20-3 victory for UAlbany.
 
The Le Moyne baseball team will return to action on Thursday at Central Connecticut State University for the final series of the regular season at 12:00 p.m.
