Brooklyn, N.Y. – The fourth-seeded Le Moyne College softball team closed their season with a matchup against #2 Central Connecticut State at day two of the NEC Championships on Friday afternoon. The Dolphins fell, 8-0, to the Blue Devils in the double-elimination tournament.
Le Moyne wrapped up their most successful season since beginning their transition to Division I prior to the 2024 season, winning 12 conference games en route to their first NEC Championship tournament.
CCSU threatened in the bottom of the first inning, recording two singles and a walk to load the bases, but Le Moyne's sophomore starter Isabella Kwashek (West Deptford, N.J. / West Deptford) was able to work out of the two-out jam by inducing a fly-out.
The Dolphins got a baserunner on in both the top of the first and third innings via a pair of singles off the bat of freshman left fielder Kayla Dunkerley (Purcellville, Va. / Loudon Valley) but were unable to bring her around to score on both occasions.
The Blue Devils struck for three runs on four hits in their half of the third as shortstop Ava Cino led off with a walk before first baseman Grace Lawton and third baseman Stella Gasper connected on back-to-back homers before freshman Adrianna Laraway (Colonie, N.Y. / Colonie) appeared in relief of Kwashek in the circle to close the inning.
The Dolphins were unable to produce another runner before the bottom of the fifth inning when CCSU finished out their win with a five-hit, five-run frame. The Blue Devils tallied four base hits and drove in three runs before center fielder Ashlyn Desaulniers came to bat with one runner on and connected on a two-run walk-off homer.
Dunkerley's two singles marked a team-best for the Dolphins.
Kwashek tossed 2.1 innings in the start, allowing three runs on seven hits and two walks. Laraway allowed five runs on five hits in the final 2.1 innings in the circle for Le Moyne.
