The 2025 season will mark the 15th season at the helm for Scott Cassidy. He has amassed a record of 345-279-3 in his time at Le Moyne. In his time on the Heights, he has seen 64 players receive Northeast-10 Conference All-Conference honors, including 16 First Team awards, three Rookie Hitter of the Year, three Rookie Pitcher of the Year, two Player of the Year and two Pitcher of the Year honors. He has seen two of his pitchers (Josiah Gray and Ryan Murphy) be drafted in the top five rounds of the MLB draft and one, Josiah Gray, already reaching the Major Leagues as he is in the rotation for the Washington Nationals. Cassidy’s team has on three different occasions won the Team Excellence award for best team GPA in the NE10 for baseball, something he is very proud of.

The Dolphins claimed an NE10 Southwest Division title and earned a spot in the NCAA Championship for the second consecutive season in 2023. Cassidy led the 'Phins to an NCAA East Regional #2 Championship and an appearance in the East Super Regional where they fell to #10 SNHU. The Dolphins compiled a 14-6 conference record, including two division sweeps. Seven different Dolphins earned All-NE10 honors. Starting pitcher Max Parker and infielder/outfielder Adam Sullivan were named to the NE10 All-Conference First Team, starting pitcher Sam DiGeorge and outfielder Wyatt Patchett were second team honorees, while infielder Drew Carroll was named to the All-Defensive Team, and freshmen Sullivan and Brody Keneston earned spots on the All-Rookie Team. Sullivan was also named NE10 Southwest Division Rookie of the Year, and he also garnered All-East Region accolades along with Parker and DiGeorge.

The 2022 season marked the third time Cassidy has led the Dolphins to the NCAA tournament, while accumulating 27 wins on the year. The Dolphins eliminated conference foe Adelphi in the NCAA Regional before losing a tough one to Franklin Pierce to end the season. The 2022 season also saw two more Dolphins earn All-Region honors with graduate student outfielder Mike Smith and junior pitcher Jake Marshall earning the honors. Cassidy also led five players to All-NE10 honors led by first teamers Mike Smith and Jake Marshall. Senior Ty Syta and junior Zach Brush pulled in second team honors and graduate student catcher Drew Fureno garnered third team accolades. Jake Marshall was also named the Southwest Division Pitcher of the Year, the first Dolphin to win that honor since Josiah Gray in 2018.

The 2021 season was a shortened one due to Covid-19 where the Dolphins played only their conference schedule. Cassidy led them to a 16-9 record, falling to Adelphi in the Southwest Division Final. Andrew Roden garnered First Team All-NE10 as well as honorable mention All- Region and Joe Vail was recognized as Second Team All-NE10.

The 2020 season was shut down after just 16 games played due to the pandemic and the Dolphins finished with a 9-7 record. Despite the shortened season, as well as the shortened MLB draft being limited to five rounds, Cassidy saw one of his pitchers get drafted by the San Francisco Giants in the fifth round. Junior righty Ryan Murphy became the second pitcher in just three years to be drafted in the top five rounds of the MLB Draft and also was the first Division II player taken in the draft.

The 2019 Dolphins team won 24 games and eventually was the top remaining seed in the Southwest Division of the NE10 tournament and played host to the surviving four teams. After winning the first two games of the double-elimination tournament, they were upended by Merrimack and eventual winner Franklin Pierce. 2019 marked the second consecutive season that a Cassidy led team had a player garner Player of the Year honors as Andrew Taft took home the honor after putting together one of the best seasons ever for a Dolphin after hitting .339 with a league-leading 15 home runs and 48 RBI. Taft was also named Consensus East Region First Team selection. Along with Taft, Camillo Spinoso took home First Team All-NE10 honors and Justin Tuey landed on the second team. Rounding out the All-League awards was Nick Nevins and Jacob Maser taking home third team. 2019 also marked the first time under Coach Cassidy a Dolphin was named to the ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove Team as sophomore pitcher Ryan Murphy earned the honors.

2018 marked a historic season for the Dolphins and Coach Cassidy as they finished with a 34-17-1 record and saw action in the NCAA Regional Tournament, eventually losing to SNHU, which went onto to play in the DII World Series. The Dolphins garnered some major awards this season as Ben Walsh was named Player of the Year in the Conference, Josiah Gray was named Pitcher of the Year, Ryan Murphy was named Freshman Pitcher of the Year (the third consecutive year a Dolphin won this award) and Coach Cassidy garnered Coach of the Year honors. Walsh and Gray were joined on the first team by senior outfielder Brian Cox and junior first baseman Andrew Taft. Murphy was named to the second team along with junior catcher Camillo Spinoso and junior DH Nick Place. Following the season, Ben Walsh was named Honorable Mention All-American at shortstop and Josiah Gray was not only a First Team All-American but was also named D2CCA and NCBWA National Pitcher of the Year. Not to be outdone on the field, Gray also garnered Google Cloud Academic All-America honors. Gray then became the third-highest pick in program history when he was selected by the Cincinnati Reds in the second round of the MLB Draft with the 72nd overall pick, making him the first Division II player taken in the draft. Another milestone was reached on April 7th when the Dolphins beat Assumption College by a score of 15-4 giving Coach Cassidy his 200th win at the helm of his alma mater.

The 2017 team finished with a 28-16 record, eventually falling in the conference tournament. Cassidy led several players to all-league honors as Josiah Gray earned first team honors while senior pitcher Sean Pisik landed on the second team. Three Dolphins garnered third team with outfielder JT Pittman, utility player Camillo Spinoso and pitcher Damian Powers all being recognized. Freshman pitcher Chase Borowitz earned Freshman Pitcher of the Year for the Conference, marking the second straight year a Dolphin won the award. Along with his All-NE10 honors, Josiah Gray was named Honorable Mention All-American by the NCBWA. Cassidy’s pitching staff, led by Gray, also led Division II in Team ERA at 2.61.

Cassidy led the Dolphins to a 27-17 record in 2016, earning them another postseason opportunity, though they fell to Pace University in the NE10 playoffs. Along the way, several of Cassidy’s players earned All-NE10 honors. Catcher Trey West, DH Nick Place and pitcher Damian Powers were named to the second team, while second baseman Brett Charbonneau and pitcher Zach Place were named to the third team. Nick Place was also named the Rookie Hitter of the Year in the conference and righty Sam Walsh was named the Rookie Pitcher of the Year.

2015 was a down year for the Dolphins, finishing with a 14-22 record, marking the only season under Coach Cassidy that he has not played in the postseason. Freshman outfielder Brian Cox earned conference Rookie Player of the Year honors with his outstanding play all season which also earned him third team All-NE10.

The 2014 team played to 19 victories and saw two more players earn All-NE10 honors as outfielder Nate Reynolds and catcher Trey West earned second team and third team, respectively. Along the way, Cassidy earned his 100th win with a victory over Merrimack on April 6 with a score of 18-4. The Dolphins made the postseason once again despite not playing with their leading returner, Pat Wiese, as he was sidelined with a cancer diagnosis. He has recovered fully and has started the Patrick Wiese Foundation to support children and their families with similar diagnosis. Wiese was named the NE10 Man of the Year at the conclusion of the Spring season.

2013 saw the Dolphins finish with 25 wins and another trip to the postseason as they upended Pace and Merrimack in the first two games of the double-elimination tournament before they eventually fell to Merrimack ending their season. Four members of the team earned All-Conference recognition led by outfielder Pat Wiese, who was named to the first team. Lefty Ryan Davis earned second team honors and second baseman Vinnie Redmond and catcher Brian Stinson landed on the third team.

The 2012 season was a memorable one. Cassidy led the Dolphins to a program-record 43 wins on their way to an NCAA Regional bid after winning their first NE10 Conference title. They won three games in the regional, eventually losing to SNHU by one run in the championship game leading up to the World Series. The Dolphins climbed as high as sixth in the country and garnered several accolades at years end. Seven Dolphins were named to the all-conference team, led by a pair of outfielders in Brett Botsford and Zach Wiley. Infielder/pitcher Matt Marra and righty Casey Cannon both received second team recognition as righties Derek Zielinski and Kevin Carroll were named to the third team.

2011 marked Coach Cassidy’s first year at the helm of his alma mater as he led them to 23 wins in their last year at the Division I level. The Dolphins took down James Madison University on February 25th by a score of 11-7 to capture Cassidy’s first win. After the 2011 season, the Dolphins transitioned to the DII level.

Before his time here on the Heights, Cassidy was the Head Coach at Sullivan CCC for one season before taking over as Pitching Coach at Le Moyne for the 2010 season under then-Head Coach Steve Owens.

Prior to getting into coaching, Cassidy had a very impressive playing career that saw him play in the Major Leagues with three different organizations. The Toronto Blue Jays signed him out of Le Moyne College in 1998 as a Free Agent and he went on to tear up the minor leagues. He garnered all-star recognition in Rookie Ball (Pioneer League) as well as AA (Southern League) while climbing the ranks in the Toronto Blue Jays organization. He was named to have the Best Control in the organization, something he preaches to his current players. One of his former pitchers, Ryan Murphy, garnered the same recognition in the San Francisco Giants organization at the end of his first season in pro ball.

After he was traded from the Blue Jays, Cassidy had a short stint with the Boston Red Sox before being traded to the San Diego Padres, where he was a part of the 2005 and 2006 National League West Championship teams. In 2006, he was a member of a bullpen setting up Hall of Fame closer Trevor Hoffman and went onto have six wins with a 2.53 ERA.

Cassidy has international experience as well as he represented his country while playing for Team USA during the World Cup of Baseball in Taipei, Taiwan in the Fall of 2001. He helped pitch his team into the Gold Medal game, eventually losing to Cuba and settling for the Silver Medal.

Cassidy, a member of the Liverpool High School Hall of Fame, the Le Moyne College Hall of Fame, and the Greater Syracuse Sports Hall of Fame, resides in Liverpool, NY with his wife Melissa and their two children, son Colin and daughter Kyler.
