Le Moyne College head women’s basketball coach Gina Castelli announced in August 2020 the promotion of Annie Giannone to assistant coach following the departure of Rayven Johnson, who recently accepted the Head Coaching position at Saint Elizabeth University.
Giannone, who enters her second year with the program after serving as the Graduate Assistant Coach last season, helped guide the Dolphins to a 19-9 record. Her duties included overseeing academics, team travel, scouting and practice. This season, she will be responsible for scouting and academics and assisting with recruiting, Individual player development and practice planning.
“We are absolutely thrilled to promote Annie Giannone to the Assistant Coach position,” said Castelli, who enters her eighth year in charge of the Dolphins. “Coach Annie brings a winning attitude, a high basketball IQ and an infectious spirit to our program. I am grateful to have her on my staff, particularly during such unsettling times. She is poised and confident in handling unchartered waters.”
Giannone is a 2019 graduate of Ithaca College, where she was a four-year member of the women’s basketball program and helped lead the Bombers to three NCAA appearances, including a national quarterfinal appearance in her senior season. The Bombers won two conference regular season and tournament championships during her time at Ithaca. As a senior, she was named to the Liberty League First Team and All-Academic Team, the D3hoops.com East Region Second Team and the ECAC Second Team after setting Ithaca’s single-season assists record with 131. She recorded the game-winning baskets in the final seconds of the Liberty League championship game against RIT and the NCAA Round of 16 game against DeSales. On senior day, she hit a shot from just inside half court at the end of regulation to force overtime and the shot earned her a spot on ESPN’s Top 10 Plays of the day.
Additionally, she earned the Iris Carnell Female Athlete of the Year award at Ithaca's 2018-19 Senior Student-Athlete Awards Brunch.
Giannone is a native of Auburn, N.Y. and attended Auburn High School, where she played for her father, Al, a long-time high school boys and girl’s HS coach.
