Robin Wheeless was elevated to Head Track and Cross Country Coach in the Summer of 2018. He has been coaching for more than 20 years at all levels of track and field. Prior to taking over as head coach, he was the assistant coach working primarily with the sprinters, jumpers and throwers. Before coming to Le Moyne, Coach Wheeless was the head coach at Onondaga Community College, where he started the cross country program and later the track and field program. He led the Lazers to a third-place finish at the National Championship with several individual champions as well.
He is certified by the USATF as a level 1 coach and a level 2 endurance specialist. He is certified by the USTFCCCA as an endurance, jumps and throwing event specialist. He is certified by the NCACE as a strength and conditioning coach.
Coach Wheeless has been a distance runner most of his life, competing in track, cross country, trail and road races. He was a nationally-ranked master’s runner in several distance events. He also finished in the top 100 at the Boston Marathon.
Wheeless graduated from Syracuse University as a Computer Engineer and has lived here in Syracuse his entire life. He has three adult children; Kayleigh, Kelsey and McAllister, who are now living in the south east. His wife, Kelly, graduated from Le Moyne with both her undergraduate and MBA degrees.
