Amy Tiernan joined the women’s lacrosse staff as assistant coach in August 2018.
Tiernan joined the Dolphins after serving as a graduate assistant coach on the women’s lacrosse staff at Springfield College from 2015-17, while earning a Master's degree in Social Work. In her first year on the sidelines, the Pride went 16-6 en route to winning the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championship and advancing to the third round of the NCAA Division III Championship. The Pride went 13-5 in 2017 and advanced to the NEWMAC Championship game. Tiernan worked with the offense in 2016 and with the defense in 2017.
A native of Carthage, Tiernan was a midfielder at the University of Massachusetts from 2011-2015. With the Minutewomen, she appeared in 79 games, the fifth-most in the program’s history. She finished her career with 73 points on 43 goals and 30 assists, while adding 76 ground balls, 49 caused turnovers and 30 draw controls. The Minutewomen went undefeated in Atlantic 10 Conference play all four seasons of Tiernan’s career (29-0) and captured four A10 Championships, while posting an overall record of 74-9 in Tiernan’s career. As a senior, she tallied career-highs of 43 points, 25 goals and 18 assists as a starter in all 21 games, while adding a career-best 31 ground balls, a career-high 16 draw controls and 16 caused turnovers. She ranked second on the team in assists and fourth in points. Tiernan was named the Atlantic 10 Championship MVP and to the All-Tournament Team after scoring three goals and dishing out one assist in an 8-4 win over Richmond in the title game.
Tiernan received a Bachelor's in Sociology with a Minor an Education from UMass in 2015.
