Makres was hired as the head athletic trainer in October 2023.
Makres came to Le Moyne from SUNY Oneonta, where he was the Head Athletic Trainer and Athletics Health Care Administrator. He oversaw Sports Medicine, which included four full-time staff members as well as a cohort of Sports Medicine Student Interns. Makres and his staff provided medical care for over 400 student-athletes across 21 sports.
Prior to SUNY Oneonta, Makres was at Rider University, where he was a Graduate Assistant Athletic Trainer while working on his Master of Arts degree in Athletic Leadership. During his two years at Rider, Makres was the primary health care provider for women’s soccer, softball, and men’s and women’s track & field, serving nearly 190 student-athletes. Makres was responsible for evaluation, treatment and rehabilitation protocols as it related to his areas of coverage.
Makres is a 2016 graduate of SUNY Cortland, where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Athletic Training. While at Cortland, his undergraduate experiences included working with women’s soccer at Cornell University in the fall of 2016. Prior to Cornell, Makres had the opportunity to work with various sports teams at Cortland, including women’s ice hockey, baseball, softball and track & field.
Prior to his studies at Rider, Makres interned with the Binghamton Senators, where he worked alongside the Certified Athletic Trainer to implement health care services at the professional level. At the same time, he volunteered in the Binghamton University Sports Medicine Office and was a valued extension of their sports medicine staff.
