Serge Clement enters his second season on the Le Moyne men’s basketball staff with more than 18 years of collegiate coaching experience, establishing himself as one of the rising defensive minds and player development coaches in Division I basketball.

Serving as the Dolphins’ defensive coordinator, Clement helped engineer one of the nation’s most improved defenses during the 2025-26 season. Le Moyne made significant strides defensively across multiple analytical categories, including a jump from 361st nationally in defensive efficiency in 2024-25 to 272nd in 2025-26 (according to KenPom). The Dolphins also finished top-15 nationally in defensive field goal percentage, helping lead the program to a third-place finish in the NEC, and a home NEC playoff game.

Clement arrived at Le Moyne following a highly successful stint at George Mason University, where he served as assistant coach and defensive coordinator during the Patriots’ historic 2024-25 campaign. Under his defensive leadership, George Mason ranked third nationally in field goal percentage defense, and finished among the nation’s top-25 defensive teams. The Patriots captured a share of their first Atlantic 10 regular season championship, set program records for overall wins (27) and conference wins (15), advanced to the A-10 Championship game, and earned the program’s first NIT victory since 2004. His defensive system also helped senior Jared Billups earn Atlantic 10 Defensive Player of the Year honors, George Mason’s first recipient since 2001, while becoming a finalist for the Lefty Driesell Award, presented annually to the nation’s top defensive player.

Prior to George Mason, Clement spent three seasons at Hofstra University, helping guide the Pride to three consecutive 20-win seasons and the 2023 CAA regular season championship. Hofstra posted 25 wins during the 2022-23 season and advanced to the second round of the NIT after a road victory at Rutgers. During Clement’s tenure, the Pride earned marquee victories over nationally ranked opponents, including No. 24 Arkansas and No. 18 Charleston. Widely regarded for his player development, Clement helped recruit and develop multiple All-CAA performers at Hofstra, including two-time CAA Player of the Year Aaron Estrada, 2024 CAA Player of the Year Tyler Thomas, All-CAA selections Jalen Ray and Darlinstone Dubar, CAA Sixth Man of the Year Zach Cooks, and CAA All-Defensive Team honoree Jaquan Carlos.

Clement also made impactful coaching stops at Marist College and Saint Peter’s University. At Marist, he helped guide the program to its first winning season in 13 years and best conference finish in 14 seasons, earning recognition from Jeff Goodman as one of the MAAC’s top-5 Assistant Coaches in 2020. During his five seasons at Saint Peter’s, the Peacocks captured the 2017 CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament title and tied for the second-most wins in program history with 23 victories during the 2016–17 season.

Recognized nationally for his coaching impact and recruiting presence, Clement was named to Silver Waves Media’s “Rising Stars: Impactful Men’s Mid-Major Assistants” list four consecutive years from 2021-24 and is a four-time Top Connect honoree. He also expanded his national recruiting network while serving on the Nike EYBL circuit as an assistant coach for the Florida Rebels during the summer of 2025.

In addition to his coaching responsibilities, Clement has served since 2021 as an adjunct faculty member, capstone advisor, and guest speaker in Georgetown University’s Sports Industry Management graduate program. A native of New York, Clement earned his bachelor’s degree in business economics from SUNY Potsdam in 2009, where he was also a collegiate basketball player. He later earned a master’s degree in sport management from SUNY Cortland in 2011.
