SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Le Moyne College junior Sid Pond (Watertown, N.Y./Watertown) has been named to the Northeast-10 Conference men's basketball All-Academic team. Pond, a Business Administration major with a 3.61 grade point average, has started 26 games for the conference tournament bound Dolphins.
Pond has scored 11.1 points and grabbed 9.1 rebounds per outing for Le Moyne this season. He has posted a team-high 10 double-doubles this season. The Dolphins' leading rebounder, Pond also leads the Le Moyne in field goal percentage (63.8%). The 6-foot-7 center has scored 481 points (6.2 ppg) and grabbed 390 rebounds (5.1 rpg) in his three seasons at the college.
To be eligible for selection to the academic teams, a student-athlete must have met and/or exceeded the following minimum requirements: 1) participated in at least half of the team's competitions and be either a starter or significant contributor; 2) achieved a 3.2 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale); and 3) completed at least one academic year at his/her current institution. The Northeast-10 All-Academic Teams are chosen by a vote of the Northeast-10 Sports Information Directors.
Le Moyne (11-16, 9-13 Northeast-10) finished the regular season in a tie for ninth place in the 15-team Northeast-10 Conference. The Dolphins rebounded from a 1-9 league start to win eight of their last 12 games.
Le Moyne seeks to avenge one of its regular season setbacks in the Northeast-10 Conference opening round. The Dolphins travel to Pleasantville, N.Y. for a date with Pace University on Saturday at 2 p.m. One week prior, the Setters (14-13, 11-11 Northeast-10) overcame an early 17-point first half deficit to down their visitors 73-72.
