DOLPHINS SCORE SEVEN TIMES IN NINTH, BASEBALL BEATS CHARLOTTE FOR SECOND STRAIGHT DAY, 9-6

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Junior Ben Gaal (Manlius, N.Y./CBA) had three hits, including his second HR in two days, as Le Moyne beat Charlotte 9-6. The Dolphins (6-5) scored seven times in the top of the ninth to break a 2-2 tie and top their hosts for the second straight day.

Gaal went 3-for-4 with three runs batted in and scored two runs. He also homered - a solo shot in the fourth - for the second consecutive game. Le Moyne has won five of its last six games.

Junior southpaw T.J. Sheridan (Syracuse, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy) engaged in a pitching duel with Charlotte starter Keith Moreland. Sheridan allowed one run on seven hits in six innings of work. He struck out five and walked four before leaving the game after 101 pitches. Senior southpaw A.J. Lindsey (Vestal, N.Y./Vestal) pitched a perfect eighth for his second win of the season.

Senior shortstop Michael Affronti (Dix Hills, N.Y./Commack) doubled and scored on Gaal's single in the top of the first to put the Dolphins up 1-0. Gaal made it 2-0 in the top of the fourth with his third home run of the season.

The 49ers have scored seven or more runs in 17 of 21 games this season, Sheridan held the hosts without a run until the bottom of the sixth. Charlotte plated another run in the seventh to knot the score at two.

Sophomore Jamie Rose (Hornell, N.Y./Hornell) keyed the seven-run ninth with a three-run triple. Sophomore Robert Perez (Miami, Fla./Belen Jesuit) drew a walk to lead off the inning. Senior Brian Hansen (Endicott, N.Y./Chenango Valley) returned the lead to Le Moyne with a pinch-hit double. A bunt single and hit batsman loaded the bases for Rose who cracked a three-run triple to centerfield. Senior first baseman Keith Connors (Jamesport, N.Y./Commack) tripled home Rose, Gaal singled home one run and sophomore catcher Phil St. Amant (Brockport, N.Y./Brockport) was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to account for the final Le Moyne run.

Charlotte answered with four runs in the bottom of the ninth, but junior righty Ryan Woods (Jacksonville, Fla./Englewood) came out to squelch the rally by recording the final two outs.

Le Moyne aims for a sweep of the 49ers (14-7), members of the Atlantic 10 Conference, as the two clubs close out their three-game series at noon on Sunday.
