Box Score

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Senior Derek McDaid allowed just two unearned runs while striking out eight in a complete game effort, as the Charlotte 49ers took a 9-2 win over Le Moyne on Sunday at Tom and Lib Phillips Field. The Dolphins (6-6) had taken the first two games of the three-game series from the 49ers (15-7).

Senior shortstop Michael Affronti (Dix Hills, N.Y./Commack), who leads Le Moyne with a .440 batting average and 22 hits, and senior catcher Brian Hansen (Endicott, N.Y./Chenango Valley) had two hits each for Le Moyne. The Dolphins managed two unearned runs on a season-low four hits.

McDaid, a senior righty, used 115 pitches to get his first collegiate complete game. He allowed four hits and three walks, while striking out a career-best eight batters. McDaid did not allow a baserunner after the sixth inning, getting Le Moyne to go in order their last nine trips to the plate.

Le Moyne managed only unearned runs in the fifth and sixth. A passed ball allowed Hansen to advance to third in the fifth, and he scored on a sacrifice fly. In the sixth, Keith Connors (Jamesport, N.Y./Commack) reached on an error at second base and eventually came around to score on a two-out single.

The 49ers bats, meanwhile, came alive early in the game to stake McDaid to a 5-0 lead after three innings. In the bottom of the second, the Niners used a two-out rally to plate three runs against starter Michael Falasca (Sicklerville, N.J./Gloucester Catholic). First baseman Alex Burt got things started with a walk, before Rochelle laid down a perfect bunt single along the third base line. Chris Lane then drew a full-count walk to load the bases for his twin brother Cory Lane, who drilled a bases-clearing double into dead center field.

Falasca (0-2) allowed seven runs (five earned) on eight hits. He walked four and struck out one in four and 1/3 innings of work.

Le Moyne opens Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference action on Saturday at Fairfield.
