FAIRFIELD, Conn. - Junior southpaw T.J. Sheridan (Syracuse, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy) pitched a one-hit shutout in the second game to salvage a doubleheader split in the MAAC baseball opener at Fairfield. The Dolphins (7-7, 1-1 MAAC) dropped the opener 4-3 in 12 innings, but topped the Stags (5-11, 1-1 MAAC) 6-0 in the second game.
Sheridan needed just 93 pitches to record his first career shutout. He struck out five and allowed just one fourth-inning hit.
Sophomore Jamie Rose (Hornell, N.Y./Hornell) went 3-for-3 to key Le Moyne's 13 hit attack. Sophomore Andy Parrino (Brockport, N.Y./Brockport) and junior Ben Gaal (Manlius, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy) had two hits each.
In the opener, Le Moyne scored twice in the top of the eighth to knot the contest at two. The Dolphins plated the first run in extra innings in the top of the 12th, but Fairfield loaded the bases and scored a pair of runs on a throwing error in the bottom half of the inning. Just one of Fairfield's four runs were earned.
The same two clubs will meet on Sunday in a single nine-inning game.
