LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - Matt Moberg struck out nine in a complete game effort as Siena edged Le Moyne 4-2 to salvage the third game of a MAAC baseball series at Siena Field. The Saints (11-20-1, 6-6 MAAC) even their MAAC record, while Le Moyne (17-11, 7-5 MAAC) sees its winning streak end at four straight games.
Moberg (3-2) scattered four hits, did not walk a batter and allowed just one earned run for his second complete game of the season. After allowing a run in the first, the freshman from State College, Pa. retired 14 batters in a row.
Le Moyne senior southpaw Michael Falasca (Sicklerville, N.J./Gloucester Catholic) allowed four runs (three earned) on seven hits in six and 2/3 innings of action. Falasca (1-4) struck out five and walked four.
Le Moyne hopped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first without the benefit of a hit. Sophomore leadoff hitter Andy Parrino (Brockport, N.Y./Brockport) was hit with the first pitch of the game, advanced to second on a groundout and scored when Michael Affronti's (Dix Hills, N.Y./Commack) infield grounder was misplayed.
Siena took the lead for good with two runs in the bottom of the first and one in the second. Siena's first two batters walked and scored on Eric Hildenbrand's two-out double down the left field line. Jason DeFillipo singled and scored on an error in the second to make it 3-1. The Saints tacked on an insurance run in the seventh to make it 4-1.
Affronti homered with two outs in the top of the ninth to trim the Le Moyne deficit to 4-2. Four different players accounted for the team's four hits. The Dolphins have been held to three runs or less in each of their five league losses this season.
Le Moyne swept Saturday's doubleheader 3-2, 7-3. Pitchers T.J. Sheridan (Syracuse, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy) and Bobby Blevins (Briarcliff, N.Y./Briarcliff) turned in strong pitching performances, while  Ben Gaal (Manlius, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy), Brian Hansen (Endicott, N.Y./Chenango Valley) and Matt Nandin (North Syracuse, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse) homered in the game two win.
