NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. - Senior southpaw Michael Falasca (Sicklerville, N.J./Gloucester Catholic) struck out five and allowed just two hits as Le Moyne topped Iona 6-1 to complete a three-game MAAC baseball sweep. The Dolphins (12-8, 4-2 MAAC) meet the Syracuse SkyChiefs in an exhibition game on Tuesday at Alliance Bank Stadium.
Sophomore third baseman Stephen Crawford (Webster, N.Y./Finger Lakes CC) went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and two runs batted in to lead the Le Moyne offense. Crawford singled and scored in the second inning and broke the game open with a two-run double in the top of the sixth. Sophomore right fielder Jamie Rose (Hornell, N.Y./Hornell) also had two hits for the Dolphins.
Falasca (1-3) allowed two singles - one in the second inning and another in the fifth. He fanned five and walked one en route to his first victory of the season. Junior Ryan Woods (Jacksonville, Fla./Englewood) pitched a perfect ninth.
Le Moyne, picked as the co-favorites in the MAAC in a preseason poll of the league's coaches, swept the Gaels in a doubleheader on Saturday 22-6, 9-5. The Dolphins meet the SkyChiefs for the second consecutive season in a seven-inning game on Tuesday at 4 p.m. On Wednesday, Le Moyne will make its home debut for 2006 in a 1:30 p.m. doubleheader against St. Bonaventure.
