MANCHESTER, N.H. - Sophomore midfielder Brad Wolken (Baldwinsville, N.Y./Baldwinsville) scored two goals and 12 other Dolphins scored one time each as No. 1 Le Moyne clipped Saint Anselm 14-1 in a Northeast-10 Conference men's lacrosse game at Melucci Field. The Dolphins (8-0, 5-0 Northeast-10) have won an NCAA Division II record 65 consecutive conference games, while Saint Anselm dips to 2-6 overall and 1-3 in the Northeast-10 Conference.
Wolken put the Dolphins on the board on an unassisted goal, just over four minutes into the game. Sophomore Brian Cost (Camillus, N.Y./West Genesee) and senior midfielder Craig Rosecrans (Niskayuna, N.Y./Niskayuna) added goals as Le Moyne hopped out to a 3-0 lead in the opening period. Senior Jason Longo (Cazenovia, N.Y./Cazenovia) netted the only goal of the second quarter.
The Dolphins turned their 4-0 advantage into a 9-0 margin with five goals in the first 10 minutes of the third quarter. Le Moyne is outscoring its opponents 45-5 in the third quarter of games this season. Alex Bily (Syracuse, N.Y./West Genesee), Wolken, Ryan Lewis (East Syracuse, N.Y./East Syracuse-Minoa), Matt Cassalia (Camillus, N.Y./West Genesee) and Andrew Carducci (Syracuse, N.Y./Henninger) netted the third-quarter goals.
Le Moyne opened up an 11-0 lead before Brian Hubert broke through with the only Saint Anselm goal. He finished off a pass from Chaz Breitstadt.
The Dolphins defense has limited the opposition to 3.5 goals per game this season. Le Moyne's starting defensemen, senior Chris Doran (East Syracuse, N.Y./East Syracuse-Minoa), senior Travis Tarr (Auburn, N.Y./Auburn) and junior Matt Juriga (Binghamton, N.Y./Chenango Forks) teamed with senior goalkeeper Jared Corcoran (Concord, N.H./Concord) to hold the Hawks off the scoreboard for the first 52:31 of the game.
Le Moyne's last Northeast-10 Conference men's lacrosse regular season loss came on April 17, 1999 at Merrimack - a span of 65 straight games. Limestone (S.C.) of the Deep South Conference had held the streak for the longest conference winning streak. Its streak came to an end at 64 games with a 13-5 loss at Queens (N.C.) University on March 8, 2006.
Le Moyne returns home to meet Pace on Saturday at 3 p.m.
