SOFTBALL CLINCHES SPOT IN NE-10 TOURNAMENT WITH TWINBILL SWEEP OF FRANKLIN PIERCE 2-1, 6-0

SYRACUSE, N.Y. -  Martha Senko (Pine City, N.Y./Elmira Free Academy) pitched a one-hitter in the nightcap and Sarah Reed (DeWitt, N.Y./Jamesville-DeWitt) allowed just four hits in game one as Le Moyne clinched a spot in the Northeast-10 Conference tournament with a 2-1, 6-0 doubleheader sweep of Franklin Pierce in a league softball doubleheader at the Thomas J. Niland Athletic Complex. The Dolphins (26-16, 18-8 Northeast-10) have won nine of their last 11 games.

Senko carried a no-hitter into the fifth inning. Franklin Pierce (12-27-1, 5-20-1 Northeast-10) catcher Kate Surgen singled up the middle with one out for the only Ravens hit. Senko (8-3) struck out four and did not issue a walk in her second consecutive shutout.

Junior Lindsay Spaziani (Horseheads, N.Y./Horseheads), Reed and Kortney Meadows (Orchard Park, N.Y./Orchard Park) had two hits each to lead the Le Moyne offense. Spaziani was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and connected for her third home run of the season. Senior Ashley Anderson (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) drove in two runs.

In the opener, Reed improved to 12-8 on the mound with four strikeouts and four hits allowed in her 17th complete game of the season. She carried a no-hitter for five and 1/3 innings. At the plate, she went 3-for-3 with two doubles and knocked in a run.

Her batterymate, junior Kristen DesLauriers (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) scored both runs for Le Moyne. She drew a walk and scored on Reed's double in the fourth and blasted a solo home run to left in the sixth.

Le Moyne concludes the regular season on Tuesday with a doubleheader against league-leading Bryant at 2 p.m.
