AFFRONTI HOMERS TWO MORE TIMES AS BASEBALL COMPLETES MAAC SERIES SWEEP OF MARIST, 13-7, DOLPHINS EXTEND STREAK TO 11 STRAIGHT

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Senior shortstop Michael Affronti (Dix Hills, N.Y./Commack) went 4-for-4 with two home runs and five RBI to lead Le Moyne to a 13-7 MAAC baseball win over Marist. The Dolphins (33-12, 18-5 MAAC) complete a three-game sweep of the Red Foxes (21-28, 13-10 MAAC) and have won 11 consecutive league contests.

Affronti's two home runs were two of the game's eight round-trippers. Ben Gaal (Manlius, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy) connected for his team-high 12th of the season, Brian Hansen (Endicott, N.Y./Chenango Valley) hit his fifth and sophomore Robby Perez (Miami, Fla./Belen Jesuit) registered his second of the season for Le Moyne. Tom Ciccarone (Somerville, N.J./Immaculata) hit a two-run home run for Marist in the first inning, Patrick Feeney (New City, N.Y./Clarkstown) ripped a two-out solo shot to center in the fifth and Andy Kiriakedes (Great Barrington, Mass./Berkshire) homered in the sixth inning.

Marist took a 3-1 lead into the bottom of the fourth, but Le Moyne exploded for five runs in the bottom of the inning to take the lead for good. Sophomore Andy Parrino (Brockport, N.Y./Brockport) led off the inning with a single, Affronti rocketed a two-run home run to left center to tie the contest at three and Gaal delivered Le Moyne the lead with the duo's second back-to-back home runs of the weekend. Hansen capped the inning with a two-run home run.

Marist trimmed it to 8-7 in the top of the sixth. With the score 8-5, Kiriakedes greeted Le Moyne reliever Eric Beaulac (Troy, N.Y./Troy) with a two-run home run to straightaway centerfield on Beaulac's first pitch of the afternoon.

Le Moyne extended its lead to 11-7 on a three-run home run to left by Perez. Parrino singled and Affronti homered him in again to make it 13-7 in the eighth.

Senior southpaw Michael Falasca (Sicklerville, N.J./Gloucester Catholic) survived five and one-third innings for his fourth win of the season. Falasca (4-4) struck out two and allowed six runs. After giving up the home run to Kiriakedes, Beaulac retired three of the next four batters he faced before giving way to Ryan Woods (Jacksonville, Fla./Englewood). With score 8-7 in the top of the seventh and one aboard, Woods induced an inning-ending double play groundout. He allowed two hits and no runs over the final two and 2/3 innings for his team-high eighth save of the season.

Marist starter Josh Rickards (Glenolden, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) suffered his first setback of the season. Rickards allowed six runs on nine hits in three and 1/3 innings of action.

Le Moyne hosts St. Bonaventure in a non-conference game on Monday at 3 p.m.
