SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Senior Jason Longo (Cazenovia, N.Y./Cazenovia) scored four goals to lead Le Moyne to an 11-3 win over Saint Michael's in the Northeast-10 Conference men's lacrosse semifinals. The top-ranked Dolphins (15-0) will host second-seeded Merrimack on Saturday at 1 p.m. for the conference championship. Saint Michael's ends its season at 9-6.
Longo scored his four goals in the opening half as Le Moyne raced out to a 7-1 lead. After Le Moyne's Matt Cassalia (Camillus, N.Y./West Genesee) and Saint Michael's Brandon Kobelt traded early goals, the Dolphins closed the half with six straight scores. Longo capped the half with the only goals of the second quarter that gave Le Moyne a six-goal edge at the intermission.
Le Moyne scored the first three goals of the second half to make it 10-1. Saint Michael's tallied one goal in the third and the only goal of the game's fourth quarter.
Saint Michael's goalkeeper Jeff Hannon made eight of his 14 saves in the opening half. Le Moyne goalkeeper Jared Corcoran (Concord, N.H./Concord) stopped five shots in the first half and nine for the game. Corcoran, the national leader in goals against average and save percentage, lowered his goals against average to 3.79. The Dolphins have allowed just 3.67 goals per game this season.
Second-seeded Merrimack earned a spot opposite the top-ranked Dolphins with a 12-10 home win over No. 3 seed Bryant. Le Moyne will be aiming for its seventh Northeast-10 Conference championship and its sixth straight crown. The Dolphins won the title in 1997 and have won the last five titles. Merrimack won its only championship in 2000 - a 12-7 win over Le Moyne. This marks Merrimack's first trip to the conference championship since 2001.
