WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. - Megan Nutter scored six goals to lead Monmouth past Le Moyne 15-10 in a non-conference women's lacrosse game at Kessler Field. Senior Amanda Keegan (Marcellus, N.Y./Marcellus) scored three goals to pace Le Moyne (3-2).
The Dolphins jumped out to a 3-0 lead, but the host Hawks (5-1) scored the final eight goals of the opening half to take an 8-3 lead into the intermission. Monmouth extended its lead to a game-high nine goals at 13-4 with 15:44 remaining, but Le Moyne answered with five straight scores to close the gap to 13-9 on Leah Mazella's (Syracuse, N.Y./Henninger) second goal of the game with 8:26 remaining. Monmouth, winners in five of its first six games, scored two of the final three goals to make it a 15-10 final.Â
Keegan's three goals led six Le Moyne scorers. Sophomore Lisa McCarthy (Syracuse, N.Y./West Genesee) and Mazella scored two goals each, while Meghan Burgoon (Syracuse, N.Y./West Genesee), Kylie Rosette (Watertown, N.Y./General Brown) and Lauren Byrne (Syracuse, N.Y./Bishop Ludden) tallied one goal each. Junior goalkeeper Samantha Falcone (Syracuse, N.Y./West Genesee) made 11 saves.
Monmouth converted 7-of-14 free position shots and won 19 draw controls compared to nine for Le Moyne and outshot the Dolphins 36-28. Â
