SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The Le Moyne College softball team swept the College of Saint Rose in a Northeast-10 Conference doubleheader at the Thomas J. Niland Athletic Complex. The Dolphins won game one 5-2 and the second game 7-2. Le Moyne improves to 13-10, 6-1 in the Northeast-10, while the Golden Knights fall to 8-8, 3-3 in the Northeast-10.
In game one, junior Emma Murphy (East Syracuse, N.Y./East Syracuse-Minoa) blasted her second home run of the season over the center field fence to break a 1-1 tie. After the Golden Knights tied the score at two in the top of the fifth, Le Moyne plated three runs in the bottom of the sixth to deliver the final score. Senior catcher Kristen DesLauriers (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) drilled a bases clearing three-run double to right center to propel the Dolphins to victory.
Junior Sarah Reed (DeWitt, N.Y./Jamesville-DeWitt) went the distance in the circle allowing two runs (one earned) on six hits, while registering four strikeouts.
In game two, senior Lindsay Spaziani (Horseheads, N.Y./Horseheads) slugged her fourth home run of the year to left field to lead-off the home half of the first inning. In the third inning, Reed nailed a three-run home run to right field to give Le Moyne a 4-0 lead. Saint Rose responded with two runs of their own on an RBI groundout and a run-scoring single in the top of the fourth. Sophomore Jennifer Farrelly (Latham, N.Y./Shaker) hit a line drive two-run home run over the fence in left field to give the Dolphins a 6-2 lead. Freshman Kelly Schweikert (Rochester, N.Y./Spencerport) hit a sacrifice fly to left center to plate the final run.
Junior Caylinn Christophersen (Norwich, N.Y./Norwich) picked up her fourth win of the season going four innings, allowing two runs on three hits, while striking out two. Senior southpaw Martha Senko (Pine City, N.Y./Elmira Free Academy) earned her first save of the season by striking out four batters and allowing just one hit in three innings of relief.
Le Moyne returns to action on Saturday at noon against Bentley.
