DESLAURIERS POWERS SOFTBALL PAST BENTLEY 25-2 AND 9-1

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Senior catcher Kristen DesLauriers (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) blasted four home runs and drove in 11 runs to lead Le Moyne to a doubleheader sweep of Bentley in Northeast-10 Conference softball action at the Thomas J. Niland Athletic Complex. The Dolphins topped the Falcons 25-2 in five innings in game one and 9-1 in six innings in game two. Le Moyne improves to 15-10, 8-1 in the Northeast-10, while Bentley falls to 0-24, 0-10 in the conference.

In game one, Le Moyne scored in each of the first four innings to register their 25 runs. DesLauriers blasted three 3-run home runs and recorded a run-scoring single to drive in 10 Dolphin runs. After falling behind 1-0 in the first, Jennifer Farrelly (Latham, N.Y./Shaker) had an RBI single and Sarah Reed (DeWitt, N.Y./Jamesville-DeWitt) scored on a wild pitch to give the Dolphins a 2-1 lead. Le Moyne scored five runs in the second inning to go up 7-2. The inning was highlighted by DesLauriers' first home run of the game.

Le Moyne tacked on 12 runs in the third inning to take a 19-2 lead. Freshman Kelly Schweikert (Rochester, N.Y./Spencerport) led off the inning with her first career home run. DesLauriers blasted two three-run home runs and Emma Murphy (East Syracuse, N.Y./East Syracuse-Minoa) drilled a three-run home run to highlight the inning. The Dolphins plated their final six runs in the fourth inning on five hits. Farrelly led off the inning with her fourth home run of the season. Freshman Danielle Van Gorder (Vestal, N.Y./Vestal) nailed a two-run double and DesLauriers picked up her tenth RBI to deliver the final Dolphin runs.

Junior Caylinn Christophersen (Norwich, N.Y./Norwich) went all five innings allowing five hits and two runs (one earned) while striking out five to pick up her team-leading fifth win of the season.

In the nightcap, Le Moyne jumped out to a 3-0 lead on Reed's second home run of the season. Le Moyne added four runs in the bottom of the third to take a 7-0 lead. DesLauriers led off the inning with her fourth home run of the day and team-leading fifth of the season. Four batters later, Kortney Meadows (Orchard Park, N.Y./Orchard Park) drilled a two-run home run to give the Dolphins a 6-0 advantage. Schweikert scored on an error for Le Moyne's seventh run.

Le Moyne scored their final two runs on two hits in the bottom of the sixth inning. Freshman Bailey Phillips (Rochester, N.Y./Greece-Arcadia) led off with a double and scored on an error. The Dolphins plated their final run on senior Martha Senko (Pine City, N.Y./Elmira Free Academy)'s first career hit.

Farrelly pitched all six innings striking out four while allowing only an unearned run on three hits.

Le Moyne returns to action Wednesday, April 18th at American International College in Springfield, Mass.
