SPRINGFIELD MA - The Le Moyne Dolphins split two games with Assumption on Thursday in a Northeast 10 Conference match up held in Springfield, MA. The Dolphins move to 16-11 on the season, 9-2 in conference. The Greyhounds improve to 4-22, 2-10 in conference play.
In game one, Le Moyne jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning on a Sarah Reed (DeWitt, N.Y./Jamesville-DeWitt) home run to left field. The game would remain scoreless until the bottom of the seventh inning where Assumption would make a charge and tie the game 2-2 on a two RBI single by Sarah Taglienti. In extra innings, both teams would scratch for a run in the eighth inning and the Dolphins would take a 4-3 lead in the top of the tenth inning on Bailey Phillips (Rochester, N.Y. /Greece-Arcadia) double to left-center. The Greyhounds would win the game in the bottom of the tenth inning on a dramatic three-run home run by Meghan DiVitto, winning the game 6-4.
Game two saw the Dolphins rally back to take a 7-2 victory over Assumption. The Dolphins were keyed once again by Sarah Reed who connected for a grand slam in the 4th innings, her second home run of the day. Emma Murphy (East Syracuse, N.Y. /East Syracuse-Minoa) would connect for a two-run home run in the 5th to round out Le Moyne's attack. Martha Senko (Pine City, N.Y./Elmira Free Academy) went he distance in the circle to earn the victory. She scattered 12 hits, allowing 2 runs and striking out 6 in route to her fourth victory of the season.
The Dolphins return to action on Friday as Le Moyne travels to AIC for another conference double-header. First pitch is slated for 3:00 pm.
