SOFTBALL SPLITS DOUBLE HEADER WITH AIC. DOLPHINS DROP GAME ONE 1-0, WIN GAME TWO 8-5

STORY COMPLIMENTS OF AIC'S SPORTS INFORMATION DEPARTMENT

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - Sara Swepston (Dallas, Pa.) fired a complete-game three hit shutout in the first game for American International College as it split a Northeast-10 softball doubleheader with Le Moyne College at Groff Field Friday afternoon.  The Dolphins, who rallied from a 5-2 deficit to take a 8-5 win in the nightcap, are now 17-12 overall and 10-3 in NE-10 play, while the Yellow Jackets are 12-20 and 6-8 in the league.

Swepston, a freshman, allowed just three hits and fanned five while walking one in her complete game effort to earn her second shutout of the season.  She only allowed three runners past first base on the afternoon.

The Yellow Jackets, who outhit Le Moyne 5-3 in the opener, plated the game's only run in the bottom of the third when Tara DeMontier (Amesbury, Mass.) worked a bases-loaded walk that scored Michelle Franey (Abington, Mass.).

Jennifer Farrelly took the loss for Le Moyne, fanning seven in six innings of work.

In the nightcap, AIC staked itself to a 5-2 lead after scoring four times on five hits in the fourth.  The Yellow Jackets would get RBI singles from Franey, Teresa Bonavita (Agawam, Mass.) and Brittany Provost (Delanson, N.Y.) in the inning.  Le Moyne would then rally by scoring four times in the sixth and two more times in the seventh to nail down the win.  AIC opened the scoring in the second when Ashley Deegan (Madison, Conn.) drove in Provost.

Sarah Reed and Emma Murphy each had a pair of hits for Le Moyne while Murphy drove in three runs, including a two-run single in the second.  Martha Senko worked the first five innings for the Dolphins and scattered seven hits while fanning three.  Caylinn Christopherson did not allow a hit over the final two innings to earn the save.

Provost recorded a pair of hits for AIC.  Deegan took the loss, working the final three innings in relief of Sara Puglisi (Amsterdam, N.Y.).  Deegan allowed six hits and six runs (five earned).  Puglisi gave up just one hit but walked four and struck out three while surrendering a pair of runs.

The Dolphins return to action on Saturday as they travel to Stonehill for a double header. First pitch is slated for 12:00 pm
