SPAZIANI AND FARRELLY LEAD DOLPHINS TO 2-0, 5-2 SWEEP OF STONEHILL

EASTON, MA - Senior Lindsay Spaziani (Horseheads, N.Y./Horseheads) went 4-for-6 with two runs scored and Jennifer Farrelly (Latham, N.Y./Shaker) recorded four hits to lead Le Moyne College past Stonehill 2-0 in eight innings and 5-2 in a Northeast-10 Conference softball doubleheader sweep at Gartland Field. The Dolphins improve to 19-12, 12-3 in the Northeast-10, while the Skyhawks fall to 8-18, 7-9 in the conference.

Le Moyne and Stonehill played a scoreless seven innings in game one before the Dolphins were able to plate two runs in the top of the eighth inning. Junior outfielder Kortney Meadows (Orchard Park, N.Y./Orchard Park) led off the eighth with an infield single. Spaziani followed with her second base-hit of the game to put runners on first and second. After a successful sacrifice bunt by Bailey Phillips (Rochester, N.Y./Greece Arcadia), junior Sarah Reed (DeWitt, N.Y./Jamesville-DeWitt) singled to center field to score Meadows from third. Kristen DesLauriers (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool), the reigning Northeast-10 Conference player of the week, followed with a single to third to load the bases. Caitlin O'Neill (Pittsford, N.Y./Our Lady of Mercy) singled to center to plate Spaziani and give the Dolphins a 2-0 lead.

Reed pitched a complete game four-hitter with two strikeouts to improve to 5-4 on the season.

In game two, the Dolphins jumped on the board with runs in each of the first three innings. In the first, Spaziani led off by being hit by a pitch and three batters later scored on a wild pitch. Meadows singled to left, stole second, and scored on an RBI single by Spaziani to record the second Dolphins run. In the third, Le Moyne plated three runs to take a 5-0 lead. Reed led off with a double and scored on a triple by DesLauriers. Two batters later, Farrelly doubled to left to drive in DesLauriers. Farrelly came around from second to score on an error two batters later.

The Skyhawks scored a run in the sixth and threatened in the seventh, but Farrelly induced a game-ending groundout to snuff out the rally.

Junior Caylinn Christophersen (Norwich, N.Y./Norwich) worked six innings, scattering six hits and allowing just the lone run in picking up her team-high sixth win of the season.

The Dolphins return to action Sunday in Smithfield, RI at Bryant University at 12 p.m.
