Smithfield, RI - Senior Lindsay Spaziani (Horseheads, N.Y./Horseheads) went 5-for-7 with two runs scored to lead Le Moyne to a Northeast-10 Conference softball doubleheader sweep of Bryant at the Bryant Softball Complex. The wins move the Dolphins to 21-12 on the season and 14-3 in the Northeast-10. Bryant falls to 18-11, 14-6 in the conference.
In the opening game, the Bulldogs got on the board first with a run in the bottom of the third inning on a double to left field. The Dolphins tied the score at one in the top of the fifth inning. Spaziani singled home pinch-runner Danielle Van Gorder (Vestal, N.Y./Vestal) from third base to knot the score at one.
Le Moyne added three more runs in the top of the sixth to take a 4-1 lead. Junior Sarah Reed (DeWitt, N.Y./Jamesville-DeWitt) led off with a double and scored on a single to left by Kristen DesLauriers (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool). Three batters later, Emma Murphy (East Syracuse, N.Y./East Syracuse-Minoa) recorded her second double of the game to drive in DesLauriers. Junior Kortney Meadows (Orchard Park, N.Y./Orchard Park) followed with a single to plate Murphy.
Bryant was able to one run back in the bottom of the sixth on a bases loaded single to right field. The Dolphins closed out the scoring by adding an insurance run in the top of the seventh. Spaziani scored from third on a steal attempt by Reed.
Martha Senko (Pine City, N.Y./Elmira Free Academy) recorded her sixth win of the season going five innings, scattering six hits and yielding two runs (one earned). Jennifer Farrelly (Latham, N.Y./Shaker) picked up her team-high third save of the season by working two innings.
In the nightcap, the Dolphins jumped on the board with four runs in the top of the third inning. Reed singled home Kelly Schweikert (Rochester, N.Y./Spencerport) to start the Dolphins' scoring. DesLauriers followed with a single to center to drive in Spaziani. Le Moyne scored their next two runs of the inning on a wild pitch and an error. Bryant responded by scoring their first run of the game in the bottom of the third on a single to right.
Le Moyne scored an insurance run in the fourth to go up 5-1. Spaziani drilled a bases-loaded single to center field to score Murphy from third. Bryant closed out the scoring for the game by scoring an unearned run in the bottom of the fifth.
Caylinn Christophersen (Norwich, N.Y./Norwich) worked 4.2 innings in relief of Farrelly to pick up her team-high seventh win of the season.
The Dolphins return to action at Pace on Tuesday. First pitch is slated for 3 p.m.
