SYRACUSE, NY. - The Le Moyne College women's lacrosse team earned a hard fought victory over the Marist Red Foxes (8-4, 4-2) on Friday night at Solvay High School. The victory puts the Dolphins (12-4) at 6-0 in the conference and in the driver's seat for the MAAC league championship. A win on Sunday against Fairfield would give the Dolphins their second consecutive league championship and perfect league record at 7-0.
Amanda Keegan (Marcellus, NY / Marcellus) led the Dolphins in scoring by tallying five goals to increase her season total to 42. Lisa McCarthy (Syracuse, N.Y. /West Genesee) added four goals and assisted on one more to match Keegan's five points on the night. Marist's Liz Falco led all scorers with six goals and one assist.
The first half was a back-and-forth affair with both teams struggling to take command. The Dolphins took a 9-8 lead into halftime after the Red Foxes scored with one second remaining in the half on Falco's fifth goal of the evening.
Le Moyne came out in the second half and jumped on Marist to score three of the first four goals to take a 12-9 advantage. The Dolphins would extend their lead to 16-11 on a goal from Kylie Rosette's (Watertown, N.Y. /General Brown) at the 18:45 mark in the second half. Marist would charge back scoring four goals in the next eight minutes to pull within one at 16-15. McKenzie Gray's (Baldwinsville, N.Y. /Baldwinsville) goal at the 8:03 mark proved to be the game winner as the Dolphins opened up a 17-15 lead. Falco would pour in her final goal of the night with three minutes remaining and Le Moyne would possess the ball the rest of the game to secure the victory.
Le Moyne will wrap up their home schedule on Sunday, April 22nd. This game will be held on the Le Moyne College Campus, a change from previously noted Henninger High School. The game is set for noon.
