SYRACUSE, N.Y. - In the opening round of the Northeast 10 Conference Tournament, the #1 seed Le Moyne Dolphins fell to UMass-Lowell 4-2. The loss drops the Dolphins to the loser's bracket where they will face Southern Connecticut on Saturday at noon at the Hopkins Road softball complex.
Le Moyne got on the scoreboard first in the bottom of the second inning on Kelly Schweikert's (Rochester, N.Y. /Spencerport) RBI single to right field. The Dolphins registered another run in their half of the fourth inning on Emma Murphy's East Syracuse, N.Y. /East Syracuse-Minoa) 22nd career home run.
The Riverhawks got on the scoreboard in the top half of the fifth inning as Josselyn Mroz scored on a throwing error by Schweikert. UMass-Lowell would go ahead for good in their half of the sixth. Katelyn Hebert singled up the middle to that scored two unearned runs.
Martha Senko (Pine City, N.Y. /Elmira Free Academy) picked up only her fourth loss of the season as she completed six innings, allowing four runs (one earned) on seven hits. Murphy and Schweikert led the way for the Dolphins collecting two hits apiece.
The Dolphins return to action on Saturday as they will take on Southern Connecticut at noon at the Hopkins Road Softball Complex.
