Syracuse, N.Y. - Le Moyne's 11-0 winning streak came to an end today as they split their NE-10 Conference double header against Southern Connecticut St. University. Losing their first game of the day 14-3 the Dolphins failed to keep their drive going. In their second game of the of the day the Dolphins defense woke up as they won 5-2. This brings the Dolphins to 22-8 overall and 9-1 in the NE-10.
In their first game of the day the Dolphins took an early lead scoring three in the bottom of the third inning. Turning the game around in the fourth the Owls brought the game to a 3-3 tie. Le Moyne fell into a slump as the Owls used their momentum to score six in the fifth inning and then five more in the sixth inning. Taking the win for So. Conn. was Amanda Pindar as Jennifer Farrelly's loss brought her recorded to 4-3.
In the second game of the day the Dolphins came with revenge in their mind as they battled the Owls neck and neck. The Owls put the first point on the board in the first by Monica Savarese's single to left field. Danielle VanGorder would turn the game around as she tied the game with her monster home run over the right field fence. So. Conn. took the lead once more in the top of the sixth, but this lead wouldn't last long. In the bottom of the sixth the Dolphins made their move scoring four runs taking a lead that So. Conn. couldn't recover from. With bases loaded Farrelly's single to center field brought in two runs putting the Dolphins on top for the first time all game. Lyndsey Balinskas would follow with a sacrifice fly to bring in another run for the Dolphins. Bailey Phillips single to center field brought in the last run for the Dolphins giving them the win 5-2.
Earning the win in the circle was Sarah Reed improving her record to 8-2. Farrelly lead the Dolphins at the plate with two RBI's followed by Phillips, VanGorder, and Balinskas with one RBI each. VanGorder's home run gives her three for the season with a batting average of .325.
The Dolphins return to action tomorrow as they host Franklin Pierce in a NE-10 double header at noon.
