SOFTBALL WINS 10TH AND 11TH STRAIGHT, POWERING PAST ST. MICHAEL'S

Colchester, VT – Winners of eleven straight and 26 of their last 28, the Le Moyne College softball team improved to 32-8 on the season with a doubleheader sweep of St. Michaels on Thursday. The Dolphins took game one by the score of 7-1 behind the play of Bailey Phillips. Jennifer Farrelly and Le Moyne unleashed an offensive attack in game two that produced 20 hits and a 13-2 six-inning victory.

Scoreless through three innings of game one, the Dolphin bat came alive in the middle innings. Bailey Phillips connected for her first home run of the season to give Le Moyne a 3-0 advantage in the top half of the fifth. The Dolphins pushed across two more runs in the inning on an RBI single by Emma Murphy and a balk on Purple Knights' starter Megan O'Connor. For the game, the Dolphin offense was paced by Phillips as she was 3-for-4 at the plate with two RBI's and two runs scored. Kelly Schweikert, Emma Murphy, Caitlin O'Neill and Sarah Reed each collected two hits each to round out the 15-hit attack.

That's all the offense the Dolphin pitchers would need as Sarah Reed earned her ninth victory of the season with 4.2 innings of relief.

In game two, the Dolphin bats came alive early in the game. Le Moyne spotted starter Jenna Vanacore a 4-0 advantage after one inning. The six-hit flurry was highlighted by two-RBI singles by Caitlin O'Neill and Kimberlee Baker. Le Moyne added one more run in the second has Reed connected for her first of two home runs on the day.

Junior Jennifer Farrelly would put the game out of reach in the top half of the fourth as her three-run blast put the Dolphins up 8-0. The Purple Knights' Ashley Harkins connected for a two-run home run in the bottom half of the innings kept St. Michael's in the game at 8-2.

Le Moyne secured the victory with five runs in the top half of the sixth inning as Reed connected for her team leading seventh home run on the season. Following hits by O'Neill, Murphy and Schweikert, Jennifer Farrelly connected for her second three-run home run of the day.

Farrelly was 3-for-4 a the plate with two homers and six RBI's to go along with her three innings of scoreless relief as she earned her fifth win of the season. Caitlin O'Neill collected four hits in four plate appearances. She also added two RBI's and three runs scored. Murphy, Schweikert joined Farrelly with three hits each, while Reed and Baker rounded out the attack with two hits apiece.

Le Moyne returns to action on Friday as they travel to take on St. Anselm in a double header at 3:00 PM. The doubleheader was originally scheduled in March, but postponed due to inclement weather.
