DEFENSE LEADS THE WAY AS TOP-RANKED MEN'S LACROSSE TOPS BENTLEY 10-1

WALTHAM , MA – The Le Moyne College men's lacrosse team, winners of 23 straight games, used stifling defense to improve to 12-0, 9-0 NE-10 with a 10-1 victory over Bentley on Saturday. Senior Brian Cost led the way offensively for the Dolphins with three goals and one assist. The loss drops Bentley to 7-6, 5-5 in conference play.

The Le Moyne defense held the Falcons off the board in the first period as the offense jumped out to a 4-0 lead after 15 minutes. Brian Welch opened the scoring just :32 seconds into the game on an unassisted goal. Jack Venditti added goal from Mike McDonald and Welch netted his second goal of the game to push the lead to 3-0. Midfielder Alex Bily added one more goal for the Dolphins with just :13 to play in the period pushing the 'Phins' advantage to 4-0.

Cost added his first of three goals on the day at the 13:48 mark of the second quarter. Bentley got on the board at the 11:49 mark with a goal by Stephen Moulton trim the Le Moyne lead to 5-1. Le Moyne took a 6-1 lead into the break following a Mike McDonald goal from Cost.

The top-ranked Dolphin defense allowed only 20 Bentley shots on the afternoon and put a stranglehold on the Falcon offense in the second half holding them scoreless on 11 shots. Against only one goal, junior Doug McIver recorded 11 saves in goal for the Dolphins. McIver currently ranks tops in the nation in goal against average and save percentage.

Le Moyne returns to action on Sunday as the travel to take on Franklin Pierce at noon.
