NORTH ANDOVER, MA - Senior Sarah Reed tossed a no-hitter leading the Dolphins to a doubleheader sweep of Merrimack on Saturday. Le Moyne, winners of 31 of their last 33 games, improves to 36-8, 23-1 in the NE-10 on the season. Merrimack falls to 9-25, 9-17 in conference play.
With her no-hitter, Reed earned her 11th win of the season. It was the second no-hitter tossed by a Le Moyne pitcher this season. She allowed only three walks and struck out five on the afternoon.
Le Moyne scratched for one run in the second on a Jennifer Farrelly sacrifice fly to spot the Dolphins a 1-0 lead. The Dolphins broke the game open with four runs in the sixth and three more in the seventh. Reed helped her cause at the plate by driving in two runs on a sixth inning double and a seventh inning single. Bailey Phillips once again sparked the offence as she connected for two hits, scored twice and drove in one run.
The Dolphins dominated in the circle in game two as well. Junior Jennifer Farrelly and freshman Jenna Vanacore combined on the three-hitter. The Dolphins scored both of their runs on Merrimack defensive miscues and took a 2-0 lead after four innings. Merrimack pulled within one run at 2-1 on an RBI single by Kara Melillo. Vanacore relieved Farrelly and pitched three shutout innings to record her second save of the season.
Le Moyne continues their road trip with a doubleheader against UMass-Lowell on Sunday and a two-game set with Bentley on Sunday. Both are set for noon.
