LOWELL, MA – The Le Moyne College softball team clinched their second consecutive NE-10 regular season title with a doubleheader sweep of UMass-Lowell on Sunday. The Dolphins have won 17 consecutive games and 33 of their last 35 games. Le Moyne improves to 38-8, 25-1 in the NE-10 while UMass-Lowell drops to 24-22, 17-9 in conference.
The Dolphins spotted freshman starter Jenna Vanacore with two runs in the first. Le Moyne added two more in the third on a Kelly Schweikert two RBI single to centerfield. The 'Phins added insurance runs in the fifth and seventh inning cruising to the 6-0 victory. Vanacore pitched her fourth complete game shutout of the season going the distance for the Dolphins in the circle. She held the River Hawks to just two hits and struck out seven in earning her 11th win of the season. The offense was paced by Danielle VanGorder and Caitlin O'Neill who each collected three hits and scored a run.
Senior Sarah Reed dominated game two in the circle and at the plate. At the plate, Reed was a perfect 4-for-4 with three doubles and two runs scored. In the circle, she pitched a complete game to earn her 12th win of the season. Reed allowed only three hits in six innings and struck out four.
After four scoreless innings, the Dolphins broke open for four runs in the fifth highlighted by an Emma Murphy two-run single and a Schweikert two-run homer to right field. Four more runs in the sixth gave Le Moyne the win via the mercy rule. Le Moyne's all-time leader in home runs, Murphy connected for a two-run shot to right field for the 8-0 victory
