EDINBURG, TX – Junior Eric Beaulac struck out 12 in seven shutout innings as the Dolphins held off the late charging Northern Colorado Bears 9-7 on day one of the National Independent Tournament. With his performance, Beaulac becomes Le Moyne's single season strikeout leader with 113 on the year. Sophomore Sean Paino led the way for the Dolphins with a 2-for-4 effort with a double and home run as he drove in four runs.
Le Moyne struck first with a run in their first at-bat as Phil St. Amant drove in Chris Edmondson to put the Dolphins up 1-0. Three innings later, Le Moyne would plate four runs on Bears' starter Joe Sawicki. Corey O'Neill pushed the club's second run across on an RBI single to right field to plate Edmondson. Robby Perez extended the lead to 4-0 on a two RBI single through the right side to scoring O'Neill and St. Amant. Paino's doubled down the right field line scored Perez and spotted Beaulac a 5-0 lead after four innings.
Beaulac cruised through seven innings allowing three hits and striking out 12 on the day. Northern Colorado made a late charge to push across three runs in the eighth highlighted by a two run home run by right fielder Mike Raudenbush. With the Dolphins lead trimmed to 6-3, Paino delivered a three run home run to left field to give Le Moyne a 9-3 advantage into the final frame.
After scoring four runs, Brandon Otto closed the door on the Bears to record the elusive final three outs. Beaulac earned the victory to improve his record to 9-2 on the season.
Improving to 31-20 on the season, the Dolphins have won their last eight games. Northern Colorado drops to 19-33 on the season.
Le Moyne returns to action on Friday as they take on Houston Baptist at 11:00 AM CT.
